Fragrance Friday: Sana Jardin - socially conscious luxury fragrance brand

"Sana Jardin is a socially conscious, luxury fragrance house. Our vision is to use clean and sustainable perfume as a vehicle for social impact and the economic empowerment of women. Sana Jardin is built on the principles of a circular economy - our alternative business model enables the women in our supply chain to become micro-entrepreneurs by up-cycling the waste products from perfume production.
We believe that if we’re innovative about the way we use commercial waste, we can recycle it for the benefit of the women at the beginning of our supply chain and help them to flourish and thrive."

The female harvesters, from the rural flower-growing region in Morocco, had limited access to work - just a few times a year, during the harvest. They also didn’t have opportunities for consistent employment due to their lack of skills training. In addition, 900 tonnes of natural and organic orange blossom waste by-product is created from the region.
Sana Jardin addresses these problems through their Beyond Sustainability™ model, which empowers the floral harvesters with the skills and materials they need to increase their wages through commerce, not charity. The model is based on “flower recycling” within a circular economy, they offer business skills training to the local women so they can develop and sell their own range of products; candles and orange blossom water - all of which came from the waste of perfume production. They receive 100% of the proceeds.

When I came across Sana Jardin niche perfume house and read their story I just had to order their discovery set, what a beautiful way to support the female workers, and create gorgeous fragrances in the conscious and sustainable way.
There are 8 fragrances in their collection at the moment, I have tried and tested them all and I'm ready to share with you my thoughts on them.

Berber Blonde

Top: Bergamot, Orange Bigarade, Petitgrain Bigarade
Heart: Neroli, Orange Flower Water Absolute
Base: Musk

This perfume opens up with sparkling citrus notes, there's a slight bitterness to it which could be the neroli as it sometimes gives that bit of masculinity to the scent. The orange blossom adds that happy, Summery, care-free aspect of this fragrance. And the musk gives a beautiful warm dry-down. If you like happy, sparkling scents with a warm base, neroli and orange blossom fragrances, you would enjoy Berber Blonde. And it's totally unisex.

Savage Jasmine

Top: Clove
Heart: Jasmine Absolute
Base: Musk, Tobacco Absolute Balkan Low Nicotine

If you like heady, sexy jasmine then you must try this fragrance. The clove in the opening and the tobacco in the base add a twist to it. The tobacco is very subtle, it adds just a tad of smokiness to the fragrance once the top notes evaporate. You can imagine the intoxicating scent of a night-blooming jasmine in the balmy, Summer evening air. Beautiful, but definitely not for everyone.

Tiger By Her Side
Top: Bergamot, Cinnamon Bark, Coriander Seed
Heart: Rose Absolute, Benzoin Res. Siam, Patchouli Heart
Base: Labdanum Res., Vanilla, Olibanum

What an imaginative name for a fragrance! It's inspired by myths of ancient Egypt's high priestesses, whose perfume-adorned powers enabled them to walk with tigers by their side.

This is a very aromatic, spicy scent. You can definitely smell the cinnamon with the soft coriander in the opening. This is an oriental fragrance with rose, patchouli, incense combo, and ambery base. Warm, spicy, intriguing scent for men and women feeling daring.

Sandalwood Temple

Top: Bergamot, Neroli, Orange Flower Water Absolute
Heart: Cedarwood Heart, Cedarwood
Base: Guaiacwood, Sandalwood Album, Vanilla

This is a woody, vanilla scent with a bit of smokiness from the Guiac wood. It might make you think of an old wooden church/temple with incense burning in the background, in a good way though. You have to like woody scents to appreciate this one. It leans a bit more masculine but I enjoy wearing it in the evening/to bed because the scent is comforting and relaxing.

Celestial Patchouli

Top: Coriander Seed
Heart: Orris, Osmanthus, Rose Absolute
Base: Cypriol, Cedarwood, Cinnamon Bark, Leather, Patchouli, Sandalwood

Mainly rose and patchouli scent, quite earthy with spiciness to it. Leaning more masculine although if a woman likes deeper, patchouli scents she would enjoy it because it's not too harsh. There's definitely cinnamon detectable and soft leather at the dry-down. The rose is also present at all times but patchouli is the leader all the way.

Revolution De La Fleur

Top: Rose, Frangipani
Heart: Neroli, Ylang-Ylang, Jasmine
Base: Vanilla Bean Extract, Sandalwood

This fragrance is the one for fans of florals. A beautiful composition of tropical flowers together with rose and jasmine. Floral explosion but not heavy or heady, very feminine, happy, Summery scent with warm, creamy vanilla and sandalwood in the base. You can instantly transport yourself to some beautiful, tropical paradise. It's not a beachy scent but definitely reminiscent of some exotic holiday destinations.

Nubian Musk

Top: Grapefruit Blossom
Heart: Jasmine Sambac, Rose, Sandalwood
Base: Cypriol, Patchouli, Vetiver, Vanilla Bean Extract, Musk

For fans of musky scents, beautifully created scent, clean, crisp with subtle animalic tone, the grapefruit blossom keeps it fresher. Sensual, warm dry-down, perfect for colder evenings to snuggle with a loved one ;) Totally unisex.

Jaipur Chant

Top: Italian Lemon, Sfuma Primofiore, Clove Leaf Oil
Heart: Indian Tuberose Absolute, Moroccan Jasmine Absolute, French Narcisse Absolute
Base: Galaxolide, Muscenone

Fans of white flowers will find this fragrance enchanting. Creamy yet crisp, sweet yet fresh and airy, with tuberose as the main player. It smells slightly vintage-y but with a modern twist. Musk in the base notes rounds up this fragrance adding some warmth and sensuality to it. I find it more feminine but I'm sure a man can pull it off perfectly.

Sana Jardin is a niche, luxury fragrance brand, hence the prices are a bit on the higher side but you definitely can feel the quality of the fragrances and how well they are blended. I totally enjoyed discovering and wearing all the scents in their line. There isn't one I dislike but I am experimental with my perfumes and I don't have just one favourite type of scents. My absolute favourite which I'm considering buying a full bottle of is Tiger By Her Side and Revolution De La Fleur. My least favourite has to be Celestial Patchouli but only because it leans quite masculine to my nose.

These fragrances are not the longest lasting on my skin, I get between 4-6 hours before I need to reapply the fragrance, they also keep closer to the skin after the initial 2-3 hours. You might have a different experience though as every skin is different.

If you're looking for a new perfume, a bit different and more unique, from the usual designer, crowd-pleasing fragrances the I highly recommend checking out Sana Jardin, you can get their discovery set for £30 completely redeemable for your full bottle perfume.
You can also find them on Cult Beauty website.

If you wish to use my referral code you will get £5 off your order :) Let me know and I'll send it to you via email.
