Dermalogica Ultra Calming range - my 2 hero products

*This post contains gifted/PR sample products*

Dermalogica Ultra Calming Redness Relief Essence, Dermalogica Ultra Calming Barrier Defence Booster

Dermalogica is one of my favourite skincare brands, their products are effective, they have different ranges suited to different skin types and skin concerns and they've been on the market for many years. They also have beauty salons where you can get professional skincare advice and treatments.
I spoke about their products in a few different blog posts if you fancy having a look (Phyto-Nature Firming Serum, Trialling Dermalogica products).

Few months ago I was kindly sent a set of products from the brand targeting Winter skin which can often be dehydrated, inflamed, uncomfortable and in need for extra TLC. I didn't start using them until after Christmas/New Year when my skin showed signs of dehydration and compromised barrier defense as it felt tight, rough and, in general, not happy. I wasn't using any new products by that time so it was all down to the cold weather, central heating, tiredness and far from healthy diet I think.
Usually my skin is pretty normal, is not sensitive and I don't suffer with redness.

After introducing the Ultra Calming range into my skincare routine my skin bounced back to its normal self within just a few weeks. I was the most impressed with the Essence and Barrier Defense Booster as I think they made the biggest difference to my skin.

As we're leaving Winter season behind I'm pretty sure that many of us go through the dreaded period of time when our skin is not feeling great, often dehydrated, dry and irritated, so you might want to look into these two products from Dermalogica.

Redness Relief Essence, £38 for 150ml

Water/Aqua/Eau, Aloe Barbadensis (Aloe) Leaf Juice, Avena Sativa (Oat) Kernel Flour, 1,2-Hexanediol PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Propanediol, Avena Sativa (Oat) Meal Extract, Hordeum Vulgare Powder, Salvia Officinalis (Sage) Leaf Extract, Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate, Piperonyl Glucoside, Lavandula Hybrida Oil, Hydroxyacetophenone, Eucalyptus Globulus Leaf Oil, Tetrasodium Glutamate Diacetate, Lavandula Spica (Lavender) Flower Oil, Xanthan Gum, Citric Acid, Sodium Hydroxide, Linalool, Limonene, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Benzoate

Milky, lightweight like a toner but concentrated like a serum, formula contains a specialist UltraCalming Complex which is clinically-proven to control neurogenic and immunogenic inflammatory pathways that lead to skin sensitivity. By strengthening the skin’s moisture barrier, this essence also helps to relieve, restore and hydrate delicate skin, helping to minimise dehydration, redness and painful discomfort. With continued use, skin becomes more balanced and less likely to react to everyday stressors.

Applied by patting small amount onto cleansed skin with your palms it instantly adds layer of hydration and balances the skin. It needs to be followed with a serum and/or moisturiser.

For the first two weeks I used it morning and night avoiding any active treatments like AHA/BHA and retinol, for my skin not having to deal with anything that can compromise its moisture barrier even further, now I use it only few times a week when needed.

Barrier Defense Booster, £67 for 30ml

Gossypium Herbaceum (Cotton) Seed Oil, Crambe Abyssinica Seed Oil, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil, Limnanthes Alba (Meadowfoam) Seed Oil, Octyldodecanol, Squalane, Avena Sativa (Oat) Kernel Oil, Isopropyl Lauroyl Sarcosinate, Actinidia Chinensis (Kiwi) Seed Oil, Crambe Abyssinica Seed Oil Phytosterol Esters, Borago Officinalis Seed Oil, Hexyldecanol, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran Extract, Passiflora Edulis Seed Oil, Vaccinium Macrocarpon (Cranberry) Seed Oil, Tetrahydrodiferuloylmethane, Brassica Campestris (Rapeseed) Sterols, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Extract, Lavandula Hybrida Oil, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, Tocopherol, Bisabolol, Cetylhydroxyproline Palmitamide, Stearic Acid, Tetrahydrodemethoxydiferuloylmethane, Lavandula Spica (Lavender) Flower Oil, Tetrahydrobisdemethoxydiferuloylmethane, Eucalyptus Globulus Leaf Oil, Linalool, Limonene.

Concentrated oil booster soothes, nourishes and moisturizes the skin while restoring its balance. This innovative booster reinforces the skin’s natural protective barrier, helping to defend against environmental damage and prevent additional irritation before it starts. Ingredients including Squalane, which helps skin to retain moisture, and Oat Oil help with sensitivity and dryness, leaving the skin feeling balanced and strong with every application.
To apply press bottom of the bottle to release a stream of product, dispense 6-10 drops into palm and rub hands together. Pat gently over face, neck and chest or mix with your moisturizer, then apply.

I can't recommend this Barrier Defense Booster enough for anyone with sensitive or/and irritated skin or just those with dry, tight skin. It's a product worth having in your skincare cabinet for all those occasions when you need to restore your skin's well being.
I initially use it every night for two weeks, now I use it every now and then when needed. But usually after using chemical peel or retinol so I'm sure my skin will remain comfortable and happy.

I think these two products would benefit anyone with sensitive skin or those who sometimes go overboard with exfoliation or other intensive skin treatments (putting my hand up, LOL). Also they're perfect adds-on to your skincare routine after Winter time to help your skin bounce back healthy and hydrated for Spring :)
