Trialling Dermalogica products

(Post contains gifted products)
Dermalogica is a brand I've seen around for years but, somehow, never got around to trying it. So when I was contacted to become part of their #skinfluencer campaign I didn't hesitate to agree. Dermalogica offers professional grade skincare developed by the International Dermal Institute, they have skin centres where they do professional skin treatments and offer advice . The packaging of the products is sleek and simple as the brand focuses on innovative, effective formulas as opposed to pretty packaging. I like their aesthetics as reminds me of professional beauty therapist salon.
I have been kindly sent few products tailored to my skin's needs and I've been using them for over 6 weeks and would love to share my thoughts on them with you.

Dermalogica skincare, Dermalogica Precleanse

Precleanse, £39 for 150ml

Ingredients:
Caprylic/Capric Triglycerides, Prunus Armeniaca (Apricot) Kernel Oil, PEG-40 Sorbitan Peroleate, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Oil, Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit) Peel Oil, Cymbopogon Schoenanthus Oil, Borago Officinalis Seed Oil, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, Solanum Lycopersicum (Tomato) Extract, Lavandula Hybrida Oil, Citrus Nobilis (Mandarin Orange) Peel Oil, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran Oil, Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Seed Oil, Aleurites Moluccana Seed Oil, Cetyl Ethylhexanoate, Dicaprylyl Carbonate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Tocopherol, C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate, Citral, Limonene, Linalool.

This is deep cleansing oil which melts away makeup, sunscreen, pollution and dirt accumulated on the skin throughout the day. It emulsify with water into milky texture so it's easy to rinse off and it leaves my skin clean and ready for next step. I personally use micellar water for eye makeup removal but I have tried the Precleanse for that and it's effective and not irritating. I always choose a cleansing oil/balm for my first cleanse in the evening and this has become one of my favourite products for that. And it comes with a pump which is very convenient.
Skin nourishing oils and extracts make this cleansing oil not only smell really fresh and spa-like but also nourishing on the skin. I have a travel size of it which will be going with me on my holidays and I can see myself repurchasing it once the big bottle is gone.

Special Cleansing Gel, £33 for 250ml

Ingredients:
Water/Aqua/Eau, Disodium Laureth Sulfosuccinate, Sodium Lauroyl Sarcosinate, Quillaja Saponaria Bark Extract Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil, Melissa Officinalis Leaf Extract, Citrus Limon (Lemon) Peel Oil, Citrus Aurantium Bergamia (Bergamot) Fruit Oil, Cymbopogon Winterianus Herb Oil, Glycerin, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Coco-Betaine, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate, Capryloyl Glycine, Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate, Methylpropanediol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Caprylhydroxamic Acid, PPG-5-Ceteth-20, Sodium Hydroxide, Disodium EDTA

Although this cleansing gel lathers it doesn't resemble those drying cleansing gels I used in the past, this one is gentle and not stripping, I use it as my second cleanse in the evening or morning cleanse and enjoy it. If you like that squeaky clean feel but without the drying side of it then this Cleansing Gel is worth trying.
It's not as fragrant as the Precleanse but it also contains some plant extracts and oils to deeply cleanse but also calm the skin.

Daily Microfoliant, £51 for 75g

Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant

Although facial scrubs have become a thing of a past for me I still enjoy every now and then a gentle mechanical exfoliation especially if it's supported by chemical one. And this Daily Microfoliant is easily one of my favourite products that were sent to me by Dermalogica team. It's a rice-based powder which activates upon contact with water, releasing Papain, Salicylic Acid and Rice Enzymes to gently polish the skin. You need to mix a small amount with water to create a creamy paste between your hands and apply to the face in circular motions for a minute or so. It is supposed to be gentle enough to use it daily but I think that will be too much for my skin so reach for it only about 1-2 times a week. Every time I use I'm left with silky soft and smooth skin, I absolutely love how effective this exfoliator is and thanks to the content of Salicylic Acid is perfect for my easily congested skin. I don't find it drying but because it is a product that combines chemical and mechanical exfoliation you need to follow with gentle, soothing and hydrating products.

Dermalogica Skin Smoothing Cream

This moisturiser is absolutely perfect for everyday use but especially after using the Daily Microfoliant because not only it's soothing on the skin but it's deeply hydrating. It contains patented Active HydraMesh Technology™ which infuses skin with 48 hours of continuous hydration and helps to protect against environmental stress. The complex works on a molecular level to help reduce Trans-Epidermal Water Loss (TEWL) which contributes to plumper, healthier looking skin. The moisturiser is formulated with lots of hydrating and nourishing ingredients and it really feels like a nutritious drink for skin. The formula feels lightweight and I think even oily skin which is dehydrated would enjoy this moisturiser. I used the moisturiser mostly in the mornings and it works perfectly well under makeup and despite being a rich (not heavy though) formulation it didn't make my skin more oily throughout the day, just the opposite, really balanced and hydrated.

Dermalogica Skinperfect Primer SPF30

Dermalogica Skinperfect Primer SPF30

I do love a good smoothing primer and it seemed like one with broad spectrum SPF30 would be the answer to my prayers but unfortunately this is my least favourite product from the bunch. And not because it's bad but because I can't use it to its full potential. The texture of this product feels silky and silicon-y and it's definitely smoothing and blurring, the formula is lightly tinted which helps to even out the skin tone subtly and it also adds very natural luminosity to the skin. It makes the skin look perfected and healthier before adding any foundation on top. Because I want to make the most of the SPF I like to apply this primer quite generously to my face and it looks great on its own but once I apply the foundation on top I don't like it as much. It makes my foundation look somewhat cake-y and it doesn't help it to last longer so, for me, as a sunscreen/primer doesn't work. I've used it solely as a primer applying it very sparingly just to smooth out my skin lightly and add a  bit of luminosity to it and it worked better that way but, still, I wasn't convinced it helps my makeup look better throughout the day. So for me this is a product I would reach for on 'no makeup' days when I want my skin to look a bit perfected but don't plan on wearing any base products on top, apart from maybe  a touch of concealer under the eyes and light dusting of powder. Beautiful on its own but I don't like using it as my makeup primer.

After trialling these Dermalogica products I'm very much interested in trying more from the brand as I think their formulas are definitely advanced and proven to work effectively without irritating or clogging my skin. I also love that many of their products come in travel sizes so you can try them out before committing to buying full sizes or take on holidays with ease.
The brand is cruelty free, most of their products are vegan and are free of artificial colors and fragrances, mineral oil, lanolin, S.D. alcohol, parabens and microplastic.
They state that by the end of 2020, 90% of their packaging will be recyclable or bio-degradable.

Have you tried Dermalogica products? Which are your favourites?
