Being a mask-a-holic, trying out Peter Thomas Roth face masks

I don't know about you but I love face masks. I think they complement consistent skincare routine perfectly, allowing us to have a pamper/facial sessions at home. I use face masks 2, 3 times a week, usually doing double or triple masking which means that I usually follow exfoliating mask with a cleansing/detoxifying one and finish off with a hydrating one.
I had wanted to try some face masks from Peter Thomas Roth, especially the Pumpkin Enzyme one, for a while but just didn't get around to it until I saw this 6-piece Mask Kit on BeautyBay containing 6 different face masks in travel sizes which is just perfect to try them all out before deciding which one is worth investing money in full size.
I've used now all the face masks at least twice and while I'm not able to tell you anything about long term benefits I certainly can share with you my first impressions and thoughts on these masks.

Peter Thomas Roth face masks

Pumpkin Enzyme Mask, £34.50 for 150ml, let's start with the one that I think it's one of the most popular amongst beauty bloggers and one that everyone seems to love. A triple action treatment that exfoliates, peels and polishes the skin, effectively combating dull, ageing and congested skin.

Key ingredients:
Pumpkin Enzyme - a natural enzymatic exfoliator that helps to smooth the skin's surface.
Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA) - in the form of lactic acid chemically exfoliates to help reveal a fresher, more youthful and radiant appearance.
Aluminum Oxide Crystals - provide an effective physical exfoliation, an emollient used in microdermabrasion treatments that polishes the skin and imparts a radiant glow.

The face mask has a gritty texture, orange colour and it smells delicious like a cinnamon pumpkin pie, just don't try to eat it :)
You need to apply a thin layer to your skin, massaging lightly with your fingertips and then leaving for a few minutes for the chemical exfoliators to do their job.
My skin is well accustomed to acid peels yet I felt lots of tingling sensation for the first minute or so when trying the mask for the first time. But this feeling subsided with subsequent uses. I usually like to keep my masks on a lot longer then the producer suggests but this time I followed the instructions. Afterwards my skin felt incredibly smooth, soft and glowing and it wasn't red or irritated like I thought it might be.
The full size will last a very long time so while it might seem like it's an expensive face mask it's actually a fantastic value for money. I will be definitely repurchasing it.

Blue Marine Algae Intense Hydrating Mask, £33.50 for 150ml, this is deeply hydrating and nourishing gel mask which replenishes the natural moisture levels of the skin.

Key ingredients:
Blue Marine Algae - soothing, nourishing seaweed infuses skin with nutrients and humectants to help defend against dehydration.
Antarcticine known as Pseudoalteromonas Ferment Extract- unique glycoprotein sourced from Arctic glacial ice helps the skin to retain water in extreme climates or temperatures.
Glycerine - works as humectant, which means it attracts moisture onto your skin.
Sodium Hyaluronate - another water-binding ingredient which helps to keep skin hydrated and plump.
This is a gel mask with quite watery texture but it's not runny, it has a very light blue colour, no scent and it feels very cooling on the skin. The first time I used it I kept it on for the recommended 10-15 minutes and while the skin felt nicely soothed I didn't notice any significant changes in its hydration levels. So next time I put it on and left it for much longer, probably around an hour or so, while blogging, I was tempted to leave it overnight but didn't want my skin to get clogged. After I rinsed it off my skin felt super soft, plumped and like it had a massive drink of water. I loved the effect it gave and would highly recommend keeping it on the skin for longer then just a few minutes.
Rose Stem Cell Bio Repair Gel Mask, £30.25 for 150ml, an anti-inflammatory mask that supports, protects and stimulates the skin cells responsible for rejuvenation. Peter Thomas Roth has used cutting-edge plant biotechnology to isolate and replicate the perfect rose stem cells for maximum anti-ageing repair.
Key ingredients:
Rosa Damascena Extract - distilled from the damask rose, this is the most expensive and rare essential oil containing many properties of the rose in concentrated form.
Rosa Canina Extract - rich in Vitamin A and Vitamin C.
Rose Water - helps to hydrate and revive tired skin.
Rose Hip Seed Oil - helps hydrate and strengthen the skin.
Glycerin - humectant, it attracts moisture onto your skin.
Allantoin - protects, soothes and hydrates the skin, makes the skin look visibly younger and rejuvenated.
Another gel mask, with very subtle rose scent, which feels soothing and cooling on the skin. I've used it twice and while I kept it for much longer then the recommended 10 minutes I wasn't blown away by it. Yes, my skin felt nicely hydrated but I still needed a moisturiser and facial oil once I rinsed it off. It might be one of those face masks that needs to be used regularly for a longer time to see some real benefits. I will leave it overnight next time and if it will make a big difference to my skin I will update you on it.
24K Gold Mask, £55 for 150ml, a luxurious anti-ageing treatment fortified with pure 24 karat gold to lighten, brighten and firm the skin.

Key ingredients:
Pure 24 Karat Gold – imparts a radiant glow and locks in moisture, keeps skin firm by maintaining collagen in the skin and inhibiting the breakdown of elastin.
Colloidal Gold - a.k.a 'activated gold': helps lift, firm, and restore lost elasticity.
Caffeine - an antioxidant known to help firm, contour and tighten the appearance of skin.
Peridot - an ancient green gemstone rich in magnesium, helps re-energise, decrease cellular oxidation and minimise the ageing effects of stress.
Hyaluronic Acid and Glycerin - humectants that plump skin and deliver intense hydration by attracting and retaining moisture from water in the air.

The mask has a consistency of a gel-ish cream and golden colour with micro-specks of gold, it looks very luxurious and makes me feel very posh using it, LOL!
While I can't comment on long term benefits of the colloidal gold in this mask I can assure you that it is a perfect quick fix to the skin as it instantly hydrates it, makes it feel plumper, smoother and tighter, the pores are less visible and the skin is radiant. The first time I used the mask at night and it looked visibly nicer in the morning but the second tome I actually used it in the morning and after rinsing it off after about 15-20 minutes my skin looked like it had a really good pamper session, my makeup applied beautifully and it lasted well throughout the day.  It's an expensive mask and I'm sure there are many on the market that do similar things, without the fancy sounding Gold in it, but when you think of how much product you get in the jar I think the price is not as high as some other premium face masks.

Irish Moor Mud Purifying Black Mask, £32.95 for 150ml, deeply cleanses and decongests skin, without stripping moisture.

Key ingredients:
Irish Moor Mud - the result of the natural decomposition of herbs, flowers and plants over a period of thousands of years, this mud paste has an unusually high concentration of purifying bio-minerals, vitamins, amino acids and fatty acids.
Hijiki Seaweed - provides nutrition and hydration, contains high levels of calcium, iron, and vitamins B1, B2 and C.
Volcanic Ash & Activated Charcoal - contain minerals that help draw out dirt, oil and grime, making the pores look smaller.
Glycerine - humectant which attracts moisture onto your skin.
Kaolin - naturally occurring soft clay, helps to cleanse and exfoliates dead skin cells and debris from the skin's surface.
Black and thick paste-like mask which spreads easily on the skin and never becomes completely dry making skin feeling tight and uncomfortable. It leaves my skin deeply cleansed but also hydrated, it's the first clay mask that doesn't dry out my skin in the slightest and it actually feels hydrating which is not a surprise seeing as glycerine is one of the main ingredients in this face mask. I think this is perfect cleansing mask for everyone, even those with dry skin as it doesn't strip the skin from its moisture.
Cucumber Gel Mask Extreme Detoxifying Hydrator, £30.25 for 150g, very gentle gel helps to soothe, hydrate, and detoxify dry skin with botanical extracts of cucumber, papaya, chamomile, pineapple, sugar maple, sugarcane, orange, lemon, bilberry, and aloe. It is excellent to calm and soothe irritated skin after sun exposure, peels, waxing, facials, and extractions, and can be used under the eye area to help reduce the look of puffiness.
Key ingredients:
Cucumber Extract - helps to nourish, comfort, soothe, calm and de-puff the appearance of skin. Papaya Extract - rich in vitamins, this natural enzyme helps soften the appearance of skin.  Chamomile Extract - helps to soothe the skin.
Pineapple Extract - naturally rich in minerals, this extract helps skin look smoother, brighter and more radiant.
Aloe Vera - helps to calm and hydrate the skin.
Sugarcane & Sugar Maple Extracts – contain properties that help to reduce the look of dull skin.
Orange & Lemon Extracts - natural citrus extracts that help invigorate, tone and minimize the appearance of pores.
Bilberry Extract - provides anti-oxidant benefits.

Very cooling gel mask with light green colour and subtle fresh scent. It feels really soothing on the skin and, just like with the other hydrating masks, I prefer to leave it on for much longer on my skin to get the most of it. After about 30-40 minutes my skin feels very soft, calmed, smoother and my pores tighter. Really good face mask to use after acid peels or when skin feels irritated.

After trying out all the masks I have to say that my favourites are: the Pumpkin Enzyme, Irish Moor Mud and the Blue Marine Algae Hydrating ones, but also the 24K Gold one is worth having as a special treatment for when I want my skin to look like after having a facial.
I wish the full sizes would come in a tube or in a packaging with a pump as opposed to the jars as I always think that the active ingredients will lose their effectiveness before I manage to use up the whole mask.
The Meet Your Mask 6-piece Kit is currently out of stock but all the face masks are available to purchase separately (Look Fantastic has always the best offers on them, I linked the products to that website).

Have you tried any Peter Thomas Roth face masks? Do you have any other product recommendations form the brand?
