The perfect base combo for oily/combination skin? Soap & Glory One Heck of a Blot primer and foundation - review

Soap & Glory isn't a brand I have tried much from, especially from the makeup line but I've heard lots of good things about their products so when I saw they recently released One Heck of a Blot Primer and Foundation I have ordered them immediately. I've been looking for a new favourite base products and these two from Soap & Glory seemed to be the perfect pair for me: oil controlling, medium/full coverage, lightweight and longwearing. For a reference my skin is combination with normal cheeks and more oily T-Zone, usually a bit dehydrated.
Did they live up to my expectations? Keep on reading to find out :)

Soap & Glory One Heck of a Blot primer and foundation

Soap & Glory One Heck of a Blot primer
"Amazing. Addictive. Invisible. Well oil be damned, the secret to perfect, shine-free skin is SOAP & GLORY™ One Heck Of A Blot™ Instant-Perfecting Power Primer. With PORE-SHRINK™ Technology to instantly diminish the appearance of pores and SHINE-BLOC™ 12HR Matte Spheres for all-day-shine control, our magnificent, multi-action primer helps hide imperfections, even out your skin tone and reduce the appearance of redness. It also helps makes your make up last longer and, with vitamin E, leaves you good to glow."

Nice squeezy tube with characteristic for Soap & Glory printing, it contains 30ml of product and comes in an outer cardboard box which I didn't photographed.
Almost gel-like texture, it doesn't feel greasy or too much slippery ( I hate this kind of primers), it sinks into the skin almost instantly leaving it looking velvet matte. It has a very subtle powdery scent, almost undetectable on the skin.
My experience and thoughts
I really like this primer, I think it's one of the best I've tried. It smooths out my skin, although it is not the best at hiding my pores, it definitely fills them in a bit and blurs them so they're not so obvious. It feels almost hydrating on my skin but still keeps my T-Zone shine free for longer, I've noticed that it extends the time before I need to blot my skin for up to 2 hours, depending on the foundation I'm wearing on top of it. This primer leaves my skin perfectly prepped for a foundation and because it controls my oils it extends the time of my makeup looking its best. I have tested it with a few different foundation and I had similar good experience every single time.

"Flawless. Fabulous. Full coverage. Rise but don’t shine with ONE HECK OF A BLOT™ All Day Liquid-to-Powder Foundation from SOAP & GLORY™. With SHINE-BLOC™ 12HR LONGWEAR TECHNOLOGY so your complexion stays gorgeously oil-free all day. Plus, SUPER-BLUR™ POWDERS to help blur away the appearance of pores, imperfections and redness."

Plastic clear bottle with black pump, it contains 30ml of product. Apart from the usual Soap & Glory style printing there is nothing fancy about the packaging but it's lightweight and travel friendly.
Quite thick, mousse-like consistency, silicone based, it feels very lightweight on the skin, it blends nicely but sets very quickly so the application needs to be done fast. It comes only in 4 shades, which is actually really bad and finding the right shade for you might be difficult. It has very faint scent.
My experience and thoughts
I'm using the shade 2 Cool Sand and it's almost good match for my skin, it has yellow undertones which is good for me. If I had to talk to you about this foundation a couple of days after I bought it I'd say I hate it. It clinged to any dry patches I had, I used brush to apply it and it looked uneven, streaky and cakey. But I kept trying it and now I actually like it although it's not my favourite base. I have learnt that I need to moisturise my skin very well before applying this foundation, then I normally use the Soap and Glory Primer, although this step is not necessary and at last I use the Freedom Makeup Priming Water (review) which adds a bit more moisture to my skin. I apply the foundation using a damp Beauty Blender and do it section by section instead of spreading it all over my face at once as it's just hard to blend it evenly that way. One layer of the foundation gives me medium-full coverage and it blurs out my pores a bit more. I don't recommend building up the coverage as applying more then one layer makes it look cakey. The foundation sets to a powder finish and, for once, I feel like with this product I really don't need to set it with a powder. It feels lightweight and almost undetectable on the skin. If I'm wearing the foundation without primer it lasts about 6-7 hours on my skin before I start seeing some blotchiness, especially around my nose and mouth. I need to blot my skin around 5 hours after applying the foundation as I look a bit too shiny for my liking.
If I'm wearing the Soap & Glory Primer underneath  I can get full 8 hours of my makeup looking good and I don't need to blot my T-Zone until 6-7 hours after the application.

Overall I think the Primer is definitely a winner and I can see most people loving it. The Foundation needs extra work to make it look good but if you suffer with oily skin is definitely worth trying it out, if you're lucky enough to find the right shade. But be sure you exfoliate your skin regularly and moisturise well before applying it.
Have you tried the One Heck of a Blot Primer or Foundation?
