Today I want to share with you a simple smokey eyes makeup look which I created with the gorgeous KIKO Water Eyeshadow in the shade #213 Dark Slate Green (review). As soon as I took pictures of my face after I'd done the makeup I realised that this is the kind of makeup that looks so much better in person then on the pictures, as the camera didn't do any justice of how beautifully dimensional sparkle that eyshadow offers. But I hope you'll enjoy it anyway.
Face
Primer: this works in transit camera close-up, I got this generous sample with the latest Harper's Bazaar magazine and I am very excited to give it a good go as I had wanted to try it for ages. It's a moisturiser with priming properties and gives a nice naturally luminous finish to the skin while deeply hydrating it.
Foundation: NARS All Day Luminous Weightless foundation in Deauville (review).
Concealer: Maybelline Fit Me in the shade 10, I have finally tried this, so much talked about, drugstore concealer and I love how nicely it covers my under eye darkness and doesn't look cakey at all.
Highlighter: L'Oreal Lumi Magique in Light, as the Maybelline concealer is to dark to actually highlight the under eye area I added a touch of this highlighting one for brightening effect.
Powder: to set all my base in place I used my L'Oreal True Match powder, it's one of the latest purchases and I really like it.
Bronzer: to add a bit of warmth to my face I applied the Maybelline Dream Sun bronzer in Brunette and to contour my cheeks I used another new for me, the Maybelline Master Sculpt in Medium/Dark, I've used it only a few times so can't say if I love it or not but will keep you updated.
Blush: MaxFactor Crème Puff in Seductive Pink to add a subtle touch of rose to my cheeks.
Highlighter: The Balm Mary-Lou Manizer, this is such a gorgeous product, you can apply it really subtly or go heavy if you like the 'wet' look but the sheen is so pretty in any case.
Eyes
The star of the show was the KIKO eyeshadow but I also used some blending shades from the Zoeva Naturally Yours palette and also Mary-Lou Manizer as an inner corner highlight.
Lips
I wanted my lips to be nude but not too nude so I used, my favourite at the moment, lip combo: Rimmel Exaggerate Lip Liner in Eastend Snob and from the new collection from Rimmel by Kate Longlasting Lipstick in #45.
And here's the finished look :)
As I already mentioned, the pictures don't show how pretty the eyeshadow is, so you'll have to believe me that the whole look was more striking in real life :) I loved it and will definitely wear it again for a an evening/night out.
What are you thoughts on this look? Do you feel comfortable wearing dark smokey eyes or do you prefer something more subtle?
PS. Hope you'll have a great, sunny weekend!
We are having a BBQ with our friends on Saturday evening and I'm so looking forward to it, especially after feeling very poorly for couple of days with tummy bug :)

What a stunning look! I always hate how cameras can wash out shadows. Sometimes I create a look that's so pretty in person, and in photos it's ehhh. This looks really great in photos though, but I'm sure it shimmers beautifully in real life!
ReplyDeleteThank you! Yes, cameras can take away the beauty of the makeup we create :( x

ReplyDeleteYou look stunning! I'm loving your short hair and the makeup is so pretty. I have a shadow slightly similar to this green one from Kiko so you reminded me to take it out and play with it a bit more. I need to get out of my neutral zone more often. :) x

I love the Kiko Water Eyeshadows, they're definitely one of my favourite products from the brand. I have a few different shades but they are all pretty neutral. This one looks gorgeous! x

You definitely did the look justice girl. But I know what you mean, the Kiko water shadows are so amazingly multidimensional and it's difficult to capture on camera...as with other eyeshadow brands as well, it's so frustrating. But you did a fantastic job!
