When the new #SKINCHECKER campaign by La Roche-Posay was introduced to me I knew immediately that I want to share it on my blog, firstly, because it's so important to help raising the awareness of skin cancer and secondly, the campaign video is too cute not to share :)
Skin cancer is the only cancer visible to the naked eye and, if diagnosed early enough, 90% of Melanoma (skin cancer) cases can be treated effectively. So to encourage people to check their skin, their moles and prevent skin cancer, La Roche-Posay have created this adorable video which is a 'share and care' campaign and ask people to join #skincheckers worldwide.
As a person who genetically has been blessed with many moles/beauty spots (thanks mum!) the subject is close to my heart. I get very concerned about any new moles appearing on my skin, especially after Summer when I was exposed more to the sun. The best advice is to keep checking your skin for any new moles or any changes happening to the existing ones and to consult the doctor with any concerns. It's always better to be a bit paranoid than to regret later that we ignored the early skin cancer symptoms which are, most of the time, totally curable.
With the Summer entering UK and the holidays season upon us, most of us will be enjoying the sunshine, sunbathing and getting tanned. It's all fine as long as we remember to do it responsibly and protecting our skin from harmful sun rays. I am guilty of being on the beach without any sunscreen on or not using high SPF on my face during sunny days. That resulted in me getting sunburnt on a few occasions and sun spots on my face which faded with time but are still there and get more noticeable during Summer. I'm now older and wiser and try to protect my skin and the skin of my children with good quality products containing high SPF. Normally I use on my face sunscreen with SPF50 and when I'm on the beach or just exposing my skin to the sun I apply lotion with SPF30 all over my body. I always use SPF50 on my boys as their skin is still too sensitive.
One thing that I used to hate, up until a couple of years ago, was using sunscreen on my face, especially on every day basis, as they were greasy, sticky, heavy and made my oily skin even shinier. There was no way I could wear makeup on top as it would just slide off within few minutes. Nowadays many brands produce great facial sunscreens which are lightweight, suitable for even oily skin and perfect under makeup, so you can use them all year round protecting your skin not only from dangerous cancer but also from dark pigmentation and too early aging.
I used to use Mattifying Lotion SPF50 from Eucerin which is really good and currently I'm using Ultra-light Tinted Fluid Anthelios XL SPF50+ by La Roche-Posay and loving it.
This facial sun lotion contains very high protection against UVA + UVB radiation and it's perfect for those with combination/oily skin. The consistency of the product is very runny, it has a bit of tint to it so it evens out the skin tone very lightly and it's the perfect product to use on the beach when makeup is the last thing you want to worry about but still want a tiny bit of coverage. The formula is very lightweight, sinks in to the skin quickly without leaving any greasy or sticky residue and doesn't interfere with makeup applied on top. I use it with my usual foundations and I haven't noticed my makeup wearing off quicker then normal.
What about you? Are you consistent with protecting your skin during sunny days? Do you use products with high SPF on you face?
And remember to join the La Roche-Posay campaign and become #SKINCHECKER for yourself and your loved ones.

So many people just don't bother with SPF, and as I am an advocate for taking care of your skin completely, this is such a great campaign. <3

It's so important to check your skin frequently. I also have a lot of moles, and I always check to make sure they haven't changed/new ones haven't formed. This is such a great campaign. Wearing an SPF is a must for me! I use the La Roche-Posay Anthelios range too - it's definitely a firm favourite of mine.

I am lucky that I don't have any moles but I have to check my husbands every so often, such a great campaign and I am looking into getting that suncream too :)

Lucky girl! :) This suncream is really nice! x
ReplyDeleteIt's so important to take care of our skin! Glad you love the Anthelios range as well :) x
ReplyDeleteI know! I was quite lazy with using SPF when I was younger but now I don't want to risk unnecessary! x
ReplyDeleteI almost never use sunscreen back in Malaysia because I only leave home to office and back, barely out in the sun but once arrived here, I use a lot! The sun seems hotter here and it feels like the ray pieces through my skin, if that makes any sense? It's a lot different from Malaysia. I am still trying to get used to applying sunscreen on my face, most days I'm just too lazy. :-/

Aww how cute was that ad!! I'm obsessed with using sunscreen, even on those dark, gloomy days. On my face, I always use SFP50, or higher. My husband always jokes that I'm a vampire because I'm so terrified of being out in the sun :D I say better safe than sorry! ;)

Great campaign. It is so important to protect your skin from the sun (even though I didn't bother until a few years ago). I love the LRP Anthelios sunscreen and use it every day :) x

Amazing campaign & the video was so good, I watched it twice haha! I too have so many freckles and it's like they multiply each year, I feel like I'll turn into a big freckle one of these days. Being aware of the sun & using SPF has definitely become a priority in recent years. Need to look into the tinted SPF you have here, I'm intrigued x

I wasn't always as good with SPF as I am now, but these days it is my mission to prevent the sun from damaging my skin as much as I can! I love the campaign by La Roche Posay, it's great that they are doing this.
ReplyDeleteI'm off on holiday soon so this is a timely reminder! I'm usually quite good about protecting my skin from the sun but it's always good to remember why it's so important. Great campaign! X

I've never actually sunbathed without SPF, but when I was younger, I wasn't as careful about using high SPFs. I always did on my face, but not as much on my body. I'm much more careful now. Love the video, it's a great campaign. My Hubby is of West Indian heritage, so naturally tans very easily but he had a mole a few years ago so went & had it checked out and thankfully there was nothing to worry about but it made him be more careful with SPF. I think sometimes when people tan easily, they aren't as careful as those of us with freckles but campaigns like this are great for raising awareness. Great post! xx

It's true, my husband has medium dark skin and ignore SPF, but the sun is dangerous for everyone. Thanks hun! xx
ReplyDeleteWhen I'm on holidays, on the beach I always wear high SPF but those normal days in the city can be tricky a bit because you feel like you don't need protection. It's good to remember how bad the sun rays can be for our skin. x
ReplyDeleteI was the same, too lazy to apply sun creams but now I'm much wiser :) x
ReplyDeleteHaha, I watched a few times as well and my boys loved it too :) Highly recommend this lotion! x
ReplyDeleteSame here, I could sunbathe without any SPF on me to tan quicker, lol! even though I knew how bad the sun can be, thankfully I'm ok. x
ReplyDeleteExactly! better safe than sorry! The ad is super cute :) x
ReplyDeleteI know, I can get lazy with sunscreen as well but when it's really sunny my dark pigmentation becomes more visible so lately I've been really good at applying SPF on my face :) x
ReplyDeleteOk, that video was seriously the cutest ever! lol I'm very diligent about wearing sunscreen on my face every single day but I need to get better at wearing it all over since Florida is sunny/warm all year round!
ReplyDeleteI know, it's super cute :) Yeah, I don't wear a sunscreen all over my body every day but I can imagine that living it Florida it might be a good idea :) x
