Hello!
I know, I know, yet another mega eye shadow palette :) I just love, love , love eye shadow palettes, and with all the Holidays limited editions it's so hard not to buy at least couple of them. I had wanted to buy Urban Decay eye shadow palette for some time but, first, I couldn't justify paying the high price for them, then I couldn't decide which one to go for. All the Naked palettes look very beautiful but as I have already all the dupes I just didn't want to pay nearly £40 for shades that don't excite me anymore. And then I saw some sneak peaks of the new Vice 3 palette and I knew straight away that this is going to be my first Urban Decay palette. As much as I love neutral shades I also adore bright colours and experimenting with my makeup looks so Vice 3 palette seems like the perfect combo :) As soon as it was released in UK I ordered it and I love it!
The packaging is a sleek, silver metal case with an abstract stripe design and a bright neon lime 'Vice' in the middle. There is a magnetic closure and all it looks very sturdy. Inside you will find a massive mirror which is super handy if you're travelling. The palette comes with a zipped pouch that you can store your palette in or use it as a makeup bag. Also there is included double ended brush which actually is quite good and I used it to do my eye makeup and it does its job pretty well. I love the packaging, the design and all the little extras but what excite me the most are, obviously, the eye shadows :)
If you just look for the first time at this palette you might think how bright the shades are but after closer inspection you realise that there are many neutral colours and the brights are not that crazy and actually very wearable. I love how the shades are colour coordinated into columns which makes them look like 5 perfect quads and helps to inspire some makeup looks. There are 20 new shades with different finishes from matte to frosty, metallic and shimmers, non of the eye shadows are chunky glitters. All of them have an amazing colour payoff and most of them are really soft, buttery but a few of the shades are kind of loose, powdery and create some fall out, especially the matte ones. I found that to avoid lots of mess while applying these few eye shadows I just need to lightly touch the shadow with a brush and tap off the excess of product before applying it onto my lid. I haven't used all of the shades yet but the ones I did lasted on my eyes all day (around 8-10 hours), without creasing or fading.
Now let's see the swatches:)
First column.
Truth - very pale pink matte, very soft but somehow loose and the powder flies everywhere.
Undone - pink beige with very fine silver shimmer over matte base, on the eyes looks just matte, buttery texture but again a bit powdery.
Downfall - medium warm toned brown with matte finish, very silky but loose texture.
DTF - matte taupe with very subtle shimmer that doesn't translate much on the lids.
Second column.
Dragon - bright metallic emerald green with metallic finish, excellent silky texture.
Freeze - metallic medium blue with very fine silver and blue glitter, very soft texture.
Heroine - navy blue with very subtle silver and navy blue micro-shimmer over a matte finish, the texture is slightly drier and powdery and while it has good pigmentation it's difficult to build up the intensity and seems to blend away easily.
Brokedown - metallic golden olive brown, soft and easy to work with it.
Third column.
Vanity - plumy purple with very fine micro-glitter, very soft texture.
Lucky - metallic orange toned gold with excellent buttery texture.
Reign - golden, dark brown with frosty finish, very soft and easy to work with it.
Bobby Dazzle - metallic white with golden micro-shimmer, tiny bit on the powdery side.
Fourth column.
Alien - peachy pink with golden sheen, soft texture but the colour payoff not the best.
Alchemy - dark raspberry colour with satin finish, the texture feels slightly drier.
Bondage - dark aubergine shade with metallic finish, excellent texture.
Sonic - coppery red-pink with frosty finish, beautiful texture.
Fifth column.
Last Sin - champagne with fine silver glitter, a bit drier texture.
Angel - light silver taupe with silver micro-glitter, soft texture but the colour needs building up.
Defy - dark grey taupe with matte finish and nice soft texture.
Revolver - dark metal gun grey with tiny silver glitter, buttery soft texture.
Aren't gorgeous all the shades? I love most of them and I'm really happy with this palette. There are some beautiful everyday neutrals, shades for smokey eyes and some bright colours for party looks. I absolutely adore the column 3 and 4 with those pretty autumnal shades.
But I have to admit that I am slightly disappointed with some of the shades being too powdery, they still have beautiful pigmentation and blend well, so I just need to be more careful when applying them or do my eye makeup before perfecting the base. I guess I was just expecting pure excellence from Urban Decay.

What do you think of Vice 3 palette? Will you be buying it or you're just a Naked's fan?

It is a beautiful palette!
DeleteThis palette looks so pretty!! Unfortunately I'm very safe when it comes to eyeshadow and love sticking to my neutral colours lol, so this palette is probably a bit "too fun" for me. But for those who like playing more with colours, I think it's brilliant. I'm surprised you found some of the shadows to be a bit powdery. Urban Decay is usually a synonym for great quality. x

That's what I was expecting, the greatest quality and yes, definitely the shadows are very pigmented and very soft and blend beautifully but a few of them seem to be a bit powdery, not chalky by any means, just kind of loose so while applying there is lots of powder flying around if that make sense, lol! But anyway, I'm very happy with the palette and I absolutely love playing with different shades so it's perfect for me :) xx
DeleteI haven't been lucky enough to get my hands on vice 3 yet but your post makes me want it even more!! Love it :)
