My favourite highlighters

I have said many times before and will say it again, I'm not the biggest fan of highlighters, especially those very metallic looking, simply because my skin used to be quite oily and even though it's much more balanced out nowadays I still get glowy/shiny in my T-Zone during the day. So if I apply too much highlighter it can quickly make my skin change from looking dewy and healthy to greasy and gross, haha!
Having said that I still managed to collect quite a few highlighters and I do use them on my face most days, I just apply them sparingly, only on the tops of my cheeks for a subtle effect of luminous skin.
I always set my foundation with powder to ensure it lasts well throughout the day and to help control my oils, but it means my skin may look a bit flat so adding a bit of glow is a perfect way to cheat the healthy, radiant look.

Because I apply my highlighters in quite subtle way many of them end up looking almost exactly the same on my skin so that's why I'm not the one to be buying every new release. But I have a nice collection of different shades which can complement many makeup looks and today I want to share with you my absolute favourites from my collection, those I reach for the most.

In terms of texture and formula they all, although from different brands and price ranges, are very well pigmented, silky soft and blend on the skin beautifully leaving a gorgeous sheen without being too metallic or having chunky glitter. All of them can be build up to a higher intensity if desired and they still look very smooth and reflective on the skin. I have quite large pores on my cheeks and although I avoid applying highlighters directly on my cheeks I never noticed them accentuating my pores and making them appear bigger.

Starting with the most subtle option from those in this post and one I probably wouldn't have bought if it wasn't a part of the set I got for my birthday. It's a mineral powder formula so it can get a bit messy if you're not careful but it's worth the extra hassle as it looks very beautiful on the skin. It adds luminous finish and can be lightly dusted all over the face, especially if your skin is dry and/or dull but I prefer to build it up on the tops of my cheeks for a stunning subtle rose gold sheen.

The cheapest option in this post yet still very good quality, the texture is smooth and soft and the powder leaves a beautiful shine on the skin without being chunky. It's a shimmer brick so you can mix and match different shades to achieve a few looks from one compact. In the above swatch I mixed all shades together for a warm toned gold highlighter, perfect for when I'm a bit tanned and want to get that bronzed goddess look. I also like using this shimmer brick for my eyes and the different shades works beautifully as metallic eyeshadows.

One of my latest purchases influenced by many bloggers talking about Jouer highlighters and how amazing their formula is :) And they're right, the texture is even smoother then the others and it feels almost like a cream but it certainly is a powder. This highlighter is super reflective yet it looks very smooth and gorgeous on the skin. Citrine is a champagne gold shade which would suit many skin tones.

My first ever highlighter, bought after seeing too many YouTube beauty gurus talking about it :)
I think probably every makeup junkie owns this highlighter and knows how pretty it is. I find it looks less smooth on the skin then the other ones in this post but it's not chunky by any means. It's a very pale gold that suits many skin tones including very fair toned.

The one that has been probably the most hyped up highlighter thanks to being the child of collaboration between Becca and Jaclyn Hill - the YouTube beauty guru. It's an intense gold shade with peachy undertones that suits many skin tones from light to dark. It packs a punch in terms of shine once built up and because it's quite yellow toned I prefer to use it when I'm slightly tanned so it blends with my skin tone better without being too obvious. I still can use it all year round though if I apply it subtly.

My most used highlighter has to be this little beauty, not only it reflects the light beautifully without being too intense but it has this gorgeous peachy tone that pairs stunningly with peachy and coral blushes which I love to use, especially during Spring and Summer. And how gorgeous is the swirl!? Even though I've used this highlighter the most out of all the rest it still looks perfect.

The newest addition to my highlighter collection and a very unique one. Gorgeous duo-chrome pearl with pink shift which looks beautiful on the tops of the cheeks, especially when paired with matte pink toned blush. It adds this interesting sheen to the skin which looks different depending on the light when you move your face. I believe it's a limited edition highlighter so grab it while you still can as it's truly gorgeous. And it works amazingly well in the corner of the eyes as well.

What are your favourite highlighters? Do you use them on everyday basis or do you reach for them only on special occasions?

PS. There's a giveaway of the new BECCA x Chrissy Teigen Glow Face Palette on my Instagram so go and enter for a chance to win it :)
