Welcome back guys after my, slightly longer then planned, break!
I had such a nice relaxing time over my birthday and Easter that I found it hard to switch back to the blogging mode. But I am back and with nothing else then my birthday beauty haul :)
I didn't think I'm going to get any beauty bits as my birthday presents because, truthfully, I don't need anything and I'm really trying to make the most of my makeup and skincare stash but after receiving some emails with birthday offers and browsing through the websites I found some things I did need, LOL!
So I decided to treat myself to some products that had been on my wish list for some time and most of them happened to fall into the face/base category and were ordered from Space NK website which had a £15off of purchases over £60 at that time and I also wanted to use the birthday gift code they had sent me so I got quite a good deal overall.
Hourglass Mineral Veil Primer, £20 for 10ml (travel size)
I had wanted to try this primer for ages but as it's so expensive I was delaying the purchase until now.
I've only tried it properly once so I'm not sure how well does it really work, I wasn't blown away with it though. It reminds me a lot the NYX Angel Veil primer which I've had for quite some time. I will share my thoughts on it once I've given it a proper test.
I wanted a new foundation, even though I do have quite a few in my collection I'm not 100% happy with any of them so after what seemed like hours, (and probably was!), of debating which one to go for I picked the Becca offering as I like fuller coverage foundation which can be easily sheered out for everyday wear. I'm glad I got it because it's a really nice base and despite the good coverage it provides and quite long wearing formula it doesn't look cakey or feel heavy on the skin. I will review it properly in a few weeks if you're interested in it.
Continuing with the 'perfect base' theme in mind I chose this set of three powders from Laura Mercier as it's such a great way to try all of them for just a little bit more then the price of one full size. And they're all very decent sizes, perfect to try them and deciding if they work well for my skin. The set comes also with a mini size of velour puff which I love using with the setting powder to press it into my skin for a nice blurring effect.
From left: Secret Brightening Powder, Translucent Loose Setting Powder and Mineral Illuminating Powder in shade Candlelight.
So far I'm really loving all three powders, the Secret Brightening one is perfect under the eyes, it keeps my concealer creasless and because it contains some light reflecting particles it really brightens the under eye area. You only need a very light dusting of it to work its magic, if you apply too much it would leave slightly white cast on the skin. I've used it a few times already and I didn't find it drying or looking heavy on my skin.
The Translucent Setting Powder is perfect to set the foundation with, it really locks it in place, help to keep my skin shine free and it's basically undetectable on the skin.
And the Illuminating powder adds beautiful glow to the skin without being shimmery or metallic, you can lightly dust it all over the skin for a 'glow from within' look or build up the intensity by layering it on the tops of the cheeks, bridge of the nose etc. It has beautiful subtle rose gold tone and it looks really gorgeous on the skin.
Foreo Luna Play, £29
I've never used any cleansing facial brushes like Clarisonic etc., always thought they might be a bit harsh and do more damage to my skin then good but after reading numerous good reviews on the Foreo facial cleansing brushes I've decided to try one for myself. I picked the Luna Play one which is a mini version with no rechargeable batteries which will only last a certain amount of time (apparently up to 100 uses) as I wanted to see if it's worth investing more money in the bigger one.
Firstly, can we appreciate how cute this tiny brush is?! It's only a bit bigger then cotton pad yet it fits comfortably in my hand and it would be perfect for traveling as it takes almost no space at all and you don't need to worry about charging it.
I've been using it since I got it, almost for two weeks, daily, and I'm enjoying it but it's still too early to see how effective it will be for my skin. After cleansing my skin is left very soft and feels very clean but not stripped or irritated.
But I also noticed many little pimples on my forehead and chin and I'm actually wondering if my skin is not going through the 'purging' phase. If you've tried the Luna cleansing brushes let me know if you experienced skin purging.
I will keep using it daily for the next few weeks and will share with you my overall thoughts on the brush and my experience with it.
And last but not least I've been treated to two beautiful, luxurious lipsticks which made me very happy as you can never have too many lip products, in my opinion :)
I've only ever tried a mini Burberry lipstick from the Kisses range which didn't impress me but I was excited to try a different one. Firstly, the packaging is absolutely beautiful and elegant, like all Burberry beauty products and makes it worth the price tag, the shade is stunning, nude rosy pink, kind of my lips but much better and the formula is also very nice. Very well pigmented, smooth and creamy with satin finish, it feels literally like a velvet on the lips. It doesn't last more then 3 hours in my experience but it's super easy to re-apply. Is it the best lipstick ever? No. But it's a beautiful treat , perfect as a birthday gift.
My beautiful friends, Dorota (Beauty Drama Queen), Leanne (LPage Beauty) and Siobhan (Beautylymin) got me this gorgeous lipstick which I'm already obsessed with, it's such a pretty pink toned red shade, perfect all year round but especially nice for Spring/Summer. The formula is great, very pigmented, glides over the lips without any effort, it has semi-matte/satin finish, it doesn't bleed and lasts about 4 hours depending on how much I eat and drink in the meantime. And of course I can't forget to mention the gorgeous packaging CT is famous of.
I also got a deluxe sample of Omorovicza Cleansing Foam from Space NK as a birthday gift which I've been using as my morning cleanser and really enjoying it. Even though it's called foam and it definitely foams lightly once massaged over the skin, it's not stripping at all and it leaves my skin soft and nourished yet perfectly clean.
So these are all the beauty gifts I was treated to for my birthday, I'm excited to keep using and testing them all out.
Have you used any of these products? What makeup or skincare have you treated yourself to lately?
