2016 for me was a year of skincare, I tried many products, finally figured out what my skin needs and I saw a big improvement in its appearance. I was also lucky to have the opportunity to try some amazing products and today I want to share all the best skincare discoveries of 2016 (check my best makeup discoveries of 2016).
I've also added some body and hair care because these products are definitely some gems that deserve the place in this post.
Emma Hardie Moringa Cleansing Balm, only recently I've finally tried some Emma Hardie products including her cult cleansing balm and, just like many other people, I've fallen in love with it. It removes makeup and impurities with ease (I've not tested it on my eyes, I always use micellar water to remove my eye makeup) and it's so nourishing that it feels like having a treatment. My skin is always left soft and hydrated after using this balm. Its smell is also very pleasantly relaxing and makes me think of a spa every time I use it. I certainly don't like a full price of this cleanser but if I can get it on offer then I will be repurchasing it.
Perricone MD OVM Treatment* (review), product which contains egg shell membrane is certainly unique in my skincare collection but also pretty impressive in how effective it was at reducing my hyperpigmentation caused by sun damage. Very expensive but it worked so I'm actually really sad it's finished and I can't justify buying another pot. This product made me want to try more from the brand which has some very interesting sounding products.
Decleor Aroma Lisse Energising Smoothing Cream* (review) this is another product that I wouldn't have picked for myself so I'm very grateful I had the opportunity to try it. It's an amazing moisturiser which not only smells very nice but it feels really hydrating and smoothing on the skin and it makes it glow. It works great under makeup and makes any of my foundation to look much better. It might not be the best for oilier skins but for those with normal, dry or mature skin I think it's fantastic.
Goldfaden MD Wake Up Call Overnight Regenerative Facial Treatment* (review) this is a fantastic moisturiser which not only deeply hydrate my skin but it helps to keep it smooth and clear, it got rid of those annoying under skin bumps and it just makes my skin glow.
NUDE Progenius Omega Treatment Rescue Oil, I have a few samples of this facial oil and each of them last me about 3, 4 weeks so even though I've never got a full size I know how well it works on my skin. I use it usually every other night or when my skin is in need of extra hydration. It's a beautiful oil, a potent blend of omegas and 10 natural plant oils, including Sunflower Seed Oil, Jojoba Oil, Apricot Kernel Oil, Sea Buckthorn Oil, Camellia Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, which hydrate and plumps the skin and makes it look naturally luminous.
PMD Personal Microderm Device* (review), not a skincare as such but this device has helped my skin to look so much smoother and more even. It's an at home microdermabrasion and it's very effective when used properly. I haven't used it for a while because I try lots of product on daily basis and want to give them fair test but if you're looking for deep exfoliation to help reduce hyperpigmentation, wrinkles, the size of large pores and make the skin look brighter and more even then this is a great investment.
Bravura Acid Peels, I've tried these products at the beginning of last year and they've been with me all throughout 2016. They're excellent at deeply exfoliating the skin, keeping it clear and smooth. My most used is the Salicylic Acid which helps to keep blackheads and breakouts at bay and the Lactic Acid which gently removes the dead skin cells without drying my skin out. If you're new to acids and chemical exfoliators I highly recommend you check the brand's website as they have many wonderfully effective products, everything is thoroughly explained and they offer personal advice.
Peter Thomas Roth Pumpkin Enzyme Mask (review) amazing exfoliating mask, it tingles a lot when applied to the skin but it leaves my skin incredibly smooth and glowing. It's definitely worth all the hype and I will be buying full size of it soon.
Peter Thomas Roth Irish Moor Face Mask, another fantastic face mask from this brand, deeply cleanses my pores without drying the skin. If you're looking for a good clay/detoxifying/cleansing mask that won't leave your skin dry as prune then you should get this one.
Carmex Lip Balm*, for years I was using Vaseline as my lip balm, maybe it wasn't very effective at hydrating my lips but I didn't know any better until I started blogging and finding lots of new, effective products including lip balms. But it wasn't until last year that I finally tried the old, trusted Carmex lip balm and haven't looked back. It's cheap yet so good at keeping my lips hydrated and soothed. I've gone through many different tubes, pots and sticks and it's been my favourite lip balm of the year so it had to be mentioned here. I even use it on my boys as their lips get very dry and chapped at this time of the year and this lip balm has been a godsend for the whole family.
Garnier Ultimate Blends Soothing Hydrating Lotion, I go through body lotions with a light speed as I use them every single day and I usually get what's on offer in my local drugstore, my favourites are from Dove, Nivea or Garnier. Ultimate Blends by Garnier has been my favourite body lotion of the year because it's deeply hydrating, it sinks into the skin quickly, smells beautiful and comes with a pump. All round winner!
John Frieda 7 Day Volume In-Shower Treatment, I'm not very much into hair care, always keep it very simple and don't get too excited about hair products but I tried couple of things at the end of last year and I know that they will be forever repurchased. I'm a big fan of John Frieda shampoos and conditioners, have used them for years so when I came across this Volume Treatment I had to try it. I have lots of hair and they're quite heavy so I often have a problem of flat roots and this has been a game changer. I use it as instructed in the shower, then blow dry my hair and I'm left with so much more volume and bounce in my hair, I'm impressed! And the effect lasts for a few days.
Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray I never was a fan of dry shampoos or texturizing sprays, they did nothing good to my hair until I tried the cult favourite Oribe offering. Now I get the hype! Not only it helps to style my hair but it lets me go longer between washing it (I used to wash my hair every day) as it's perfect at soaking up any oil. And it doesn't leave any grey/white or sticky residue. I'm obsessed with it!
So these are all my skin, body and hair care favourite discoveries of 2016. Lots of exfoliators, products with ingredients that help to renew skin cells, and great hydrators. They all have been keeping my skin in a really good condition and although I still suffer with occasional breakouts, clogged pores and dry patches my overall skin's appearance has improved significantly. It's much more even, smoother and not nearly as oily as it used to be.
Have you tried any of these products?
