Consistent, well tailored to your skin's needs, skincare routine is very important if you want to look your best for the longest time possible. I've been a skincare enthusiast since my late teens and while not all this time I knew what's best for me I was certainly trying to find the perfect products. Fast forward about 18 years and I'm still looking but I am definitely with a much bigger knowledge and experience and, honestly, despite me being in my late 30s, my skin hasn't look better. Well maybe it did before I hit the puberty but that doesn't count, right? :)
As much as I love trying different products I always stick to a certain routine for at least 3, 4 weeks before changing things or introducing new products. This way I know exactly how well, or bad, products work for my skin.
I've been using consistently for over a month these few products I want to talk to you about and I've been really enjoying them, my skin looks really good and I, almost, don't want to change anything in my current skincare routine in case my skin freaks out. But you know how it is, there are so many products waiting to be tested, haha!
So before I switch my routine I want to share with you quick reviews of a few products that have been working very well for my skin which, for reference, is combination with slightly oily T-Zone, normal cheeks, it gets easily dehydrated and it shows first signs of aging like fine lines around my eyes and on my forehead.
In this post I won't be talking about my cleansers, toners, face masks and treatments as that would make it super long, but you can check my latest beauty favourites where I talk about some of those products. Today I will focus only on serums and moisturisers which I've been using daily for about 6 weeks and have seen great results.
Super Facialist by Una Brennan is a brand that I have started exploring only in the last 6 months or so. I am a big fan of their Vitamin C+ Brighten Skin Renew Cleansing Oil so decided to try something else from the range. I got Glow Boost Skin Serum, 30ml, £16.99 (currently on offer for £11.33) and Skin Defence Daily Moisturiser, 75ml, £16.99 (currently on offer for £11.33). I've been using them every morning after cleansing and toning my skin and I've been really happy with how much more luminous and bright my skin looks. I had some hyperpigmentation spots which are almost invisible now and while I'm sure there are other products which I'm using to contribute to this the Super Facialist duo has certainly helped.
The Glow Boost Skin Serum contains a unique combination of Vitamin C, Hyaluronic Acid and an effective skin lightening algae extract which help to deeply replenish, boost collagen synthesis and enhance the appearance of skin. It has a very lightweight consistency, sinks into the skin immediately and brings out the natural glow of healthy skin. It has a very subtle, fresh scent of oranges that it's uplifting and perfect at the start of the day.
The Skin Defence Daily Moisturiser contains amongst other ingredients moisture-binding Hyaluronic Acid, anti-oxidant rich Ferulic Acid and Vitamin C and E. All to deeply hydrate and protect the skin and smooth the appearance of wrinkles. It's a lovely moisturiser that doesn't feel heavy or greasy on the skin, it's quickly absorbing and it leaves the skin hydrated and soft. It works great under makeup and since I started using both products in the morning I often skip my makeup primer as I don't feel like I need one, firstly, because the serum and moisturiser provide a natural glowy finish to my skin and secondly, my foundation lasts well throughout the day and my skin doesn't get very oily. The moisturiser also has a subtle fresh, orange-y scent.
I highly recommend both products if you're looking for a nice, effective products for your morning skincare routine to add glow to your skin, hydrate and protect it. Very dry and very oily skins might not get along with them but any other type I think would enjoy this duo.
My evening routine consists of double cleanse, acid toner, serum, moisturiser and facial oil, 2 or 3 times a week I use some stronger exfoliating treatments and face masks but, unless I use overnight mask, I still finish off my pamper with these 3 products I want to tell you about.
The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + Vit B5, £5.90, when Deciem launched their new sister brand, The Ordinary, a few months back so many people got absolutely crazy about their products as they're super affordable yet contain impressive and good for skin ingredients and come from people who know their skincare and science behind it. So of course I had to get a piece of that action and ordered a few serums. But I haven't been using the other ones consistently enough to review them yet.
The Hyluronic Acid serum has been a big help in keeping my skin hydrated and despite colder weather and central heating I haven't experienced dehydration yet.
Hyaluronic Acid is found in the skin naturally but its natural function within the skin is not hydration. Many products have used HA to claim hydration benefits, but HA is too large of a molecule to penetrate the skin and instead sits on the surface and can draw moisture out of the skin making the surface feel soft and hydrated temporarily, while making you feel like you need more HA after the product is rinsed. This formula uses three forms of HA with varying molecular weights, as well as an HA crosspolymer, to offer multi-depth hydration and visible plumping without drawing water out of the skin solely to improve temporary surface hydration.
I've been using the serum before my night time moisturiser or facial oil and it's been helping my skin stay hydrated and plumped. It's a very liquid, scent free formula which sinks into the skin in seconds making it ready for the next step.
And the next step in my daily night time routine has been the Goldfaden MD Wake Up Call Overnight Regenerative Facial Treatment*, £75 which has seriously impressed me. When I started using it a month or so ago my skin hasn't been at its best, I had a lot of little under skin bumps, especially on my forehead, that no mask or acid peels would got rid of it and it was so annoying. But within couple of weeks of using the Wake Up Call Treatment the bumps had disappeared and my skin is smoother and more even then before.
This Facial Treatment has a consistency of a lightweight moisturiser which is quickly absorbing leaving the skin smooth and soft straightaway. It has very subtle citrusy scent that doesn't linger. Usually that's my last step of my evening routine but some days when I feel like my skin still needs something richer I follow with facial oil.
Goldfaden MD is a brand I had not heard about before I was sent this product but after reading about it I found out it was developed by leading dermatologist Dr. Goldfaden, and it's pioneering plant-based range which focus on ‘clean’ formulations – free from parabens, petrochemicals, silicones and other potentially irritating synthetic additives – this is one of the first ‘Doctor’ brands to unite nature with cutting-edge science.
The Wake Up Call Overnight Regenerative Facial Treatment contains powerful rejuvenating and firming ingredients such as CoQ10 (anti-oxidant), DMAE (anti-oxidant, skin-firming), Alpha Lipoic Acid (potent anti-oxidant), Retinol (anti-aging, smoothing, refining), and Organic Red Tea (anti-oxidant) and nourishing and restorative vitamin E, Avocado and Grapeseed Oils, Hyaluronic Acid which deliver intense long lasting hydration.
I've been really enjoying using this night time treatment and it has very positive results on my skin, from keeping it smooth to plumped and hydrated. I know it's a pricey product but if your budget allows you to splurge on skincare and you're already in your 30s then I think it's totally worth it.
My only negative would be that for the price I'd like to see a more luxe looking packaging with a pump that works perfectly well because the one I have doesn't dispense the same amount of product every time, so sometimes I need two pumps, some days three but, anyway, I appreciate it's a packaging with a pump instead of a jar.
Lastly, on days that I feel like my skin needs something extra, I use as the last step of my skincare routine NUDE ProGenius Omega Treatment Oil, £58 for 30ml, I have only a small sample but it's my second one and the first one lasted 3 weeks or so of regular use because you only need a few drops.
It's an anti-aging facial treatment oil formulated with a potent blend of omegas and 10 natural plant oils, including Sunflower Seed Oil, Jojoba Oil, Apricot Kernel Oil, Sea Buckthorn Oil, Camellia Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, to promote smooth, youthful, luminous skin.
It's a runny, non greasy consistency, a little goes a long way, it gets absorbed fairly quickly and leaves my skin feeling very nourished, hydrated and soft. It has very pleasant comforting subtle herbal scent.
So these are all my latest skincare heroes that have been keeping my skin bright, smooth, luminous and hydrated. Have you tried any of these products?
