As much as I don't want Summer to go away for the year the truth is that it's already September, today is the first day of new school year in UK and Autumn is just around the corner. So, although with heavy heart, I'm putting away my Summer clothes and makeup and I'm bringing back sweaters, boots and all the Autumnal shades of my lipsticks, eyeshadows, blushes and nail polishes that I am actually getting excited about. After a few months of wearing bright pinks and corals on my lips it will be quite refreshing to reach for different shades.
Today I want to share with you a few of my lipsticks which I like to call 'Summer to Autumn shades', they are those that I like to enjoy fully before jumping to all my deep berries and wine reds when Autumn and Winter are in full swing. These are the rich earthy tones of brown, terracotta and plummy pinks.
Although there's no rule saying that you can't wear some type of shades all year round I like to enjoy different ones throughout the seasons as it makes me extra excited about the changes that come with different weather. The lipsticks I want to talk to you about are my perfect choices for beginning of Autumn as the shades I've chosen make me think of seasonal fruits, leaves turning brown, warm sweaters and cosy, long evenings. They're not Summery brights, nor Wintery deeps, nor nudes, just great in-between for the transition from Summer to Autumn :)
It's a beautiful deep brown nude with hints of pink, the formula is excellent for a lipstick that claims to be a cream lipstick, it's very pigmented, applies smoothly, dries to a semi-matte finish and it lasts very well on the lips without drying them out. It's not transfer-proof and it won't survive a meal but drinking and light snacking will not do much damage to it.
It comes in a tube like a typical liquid lipstick but the wand is on a longer side which I am not crazy about but it's still very manageable when it comes to application.
I am a massive fan of the formula of the ColourPop Ultra Satin Lips as they're super pigmented, very comfortable on the lips yet last a good amount of time, 4-6 hours, even with some light eating and drinking. Frick 'n Frack is a gorgeous rosy terracotta shade, it applies smoothly, it has a satin finish and it's one of my favourite Autumn shades.
Fantasy is my first LA Splash Liquid Lipstick an I am very impressed with its formula, very pigmented, applies smoothly without getting patchy, it takes about a minute to dry to fully matte finish but once it's done it doesn't budge. You can drink, eat and it still will be on your lips, only a really greasy food might slightly remove it. Being that long lasting I don't find it super drying and it feels quite lightweight on the lips, it's also transfer-proof. The only down side of it is that once it starts wearing off it's better to take it off completely before re-applying as layering it doesn't look good.
The shade I have here is a beautiful plummy pink with brown undertones.
My newest addition in my lipstick collection is Urban Decay Hitch Hike, from the Comfortable Matte range, gorgeous rosy brick shade. The formula is amazing, super pigmented and very creamy, it applies without dragging the skin, it has satin finish and it feels almost hydrating on the lips. Although not transfer-proof it still lasts a very good amount of time, 3-5 hours, depending on how much you eat in the meantime. It wars off evenly and doesn't bleed outside the lip line.
Milani lipsticks are one of my favourite from drugstore, super pigmented, creamy with satin finish, they last well on the lips and feel hydrating. For years they were only available across the pond but in the last year we have UK Milani website and also BeautyBay stocks their products. Naturally Chic is a brown nude with hints of pink, perfect effortless everyday shade.
Another Milani lipstick, but in a plummy pink shade, excellent pigmentation, super comfortable on the lips and a fantastic dupe for MAC Craving lipstick (check my comparison here) which I no longer own as my younger son destroyed it a while back (the joys of having children, LOL!) and although I adore the shade I am not rushing to re-purchase it as the Milani version is as good.
My last pick is this luxurious lipstick from Charlotte Tilbury in the shade Kiss Chase, beautiful deep rosy pink with plummy undertones, quite similar to Milani Plum Rose but less plummy and more rosy, unfortunately the shade was a limited edition and it's not longer available but I highly recommend the formula of the K.I.S.S.I.N.G range (if you feel like splurging on lipstick) as they're super pigmented, very creamy, feel hydrating on the lips but last good 3-4 hours with some drinking and light snacking.
So these are my favourite 'Summer to Autumn' lipsticks which I will be wearing a lot in the next few weeks.
Which shades of lipsticks to you tend to reach for at the beginning of Autumn?
