I've seen lately a few of my favourite fellow bloggers doing the challenge of picking up only 10 makeup products from their, usually extensive, collection and I thought it would be fun to join in. Of course, just like some of them, I cheated a bit choosing couple of palettes over single products, but, let's face it, there's no way, us beauty junkies, can stick to just one eyeshadow or one blush. So I've tried to do the challenge but also be more realistic and picked 10 items of makeup which I know I could stick to for a period of time without needing anything extra.
1 - primer, it was easy for me to pick one because the Soap & Glory One Heck Of A Blot primer is truly the best primer I've tried in terms of extending my makeup wear time, keeping my face from getting too oily throughout a day and blurring my imperfections lightly without being drying or having the greasy feeling of silicon heavy primers.
2 - foundation, I own way too many foundations yet I don't feel like I have found my perfect one but after a long and deep thinking (yes, picking a favourite makeup was a hard task) I decided to go with the Dior Star foundation as it gives a medium buildable coverage leaving a beautiful natural looking finish and, applied over the primer, it lasts all day on my skin. It took me a while to fall in love with this foundation but now I am actually thinking of repurchasing it as it's almost empty.
3 - concealer, I picked the Maybelline Fit Me concealer as it's great at covering under eyes circles but also hiding any pimples on the face, the shade 10 works great for me at both so it was an obvious choice. I do predict though that I would miss a highlighting concealer.
4 - setting powder, I always set my concealer and foundation with a dusting of powder so I could not skip this category, the Bourjois Healthy Balance powder is very finely milled and undetectable on the skin, yet it sets my makeup really well and helps keeping my shine at bay without being drying or cakey looking.
5 - another item of makeup I picked up is the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit palette (review) as it contains everything I could need to take my makeup to another level and I adore all the powders in it. There are two blushes which are my all time favourite shades, one pink, Luminous Flush, and the other more on the mauve side, Mood Exposure, the bronzer is beautiful to add a sun-kissed, glow-y look to the face and I've been using it every day for the last few weeks anyway. The Ambient Lighting powders: Dim Light and Diffused Light and the strobing powder: Iridescent Light are perfect to add luminous look to my skin, they're subtle though but I prefer it that anyway so it's not a problem for me not to have a full on metallic highlighter.
6 - even though I don't contour my face on daily basis I still wanted to have a bronzer I could do that with, so I picked the Benefit Hoola bronzer, it has a great shade which work well as a contour or to bronze the face.
7 - OK, I know this is a bit ridiculous but I had to go with my custom made eyeshadow palette which consists mostly of Makeup Geek eyeshadows with a few from Coastal Scents. If you've been reading my blog for a while you know that eyeshadows 'is my jam' so if I had to choose only one palette from my collection it would be this because it gives me endless possibilities, from everyday neutral looks to experimenting with colours which I love.
8 - I've used a few mascaras that I really loved but if I had to pick one from my current collection it would be the L'Oreal Volume Million Lashes Feline as it works the best for my lashes from the very beginning, some mascaras need some time to get drier to perform well on my lashes but this one gives my lashes volume without clumping them, keep them curled and it doesn't smudge from the very first use.
9 - with my sparse brows I couldn't do without a brow product and I picked the one I'm currently using, the NYX Tame & Frame Tinted Brow Pomade which is very easy to apply and I can achieve a very natural look with it or more dramatic if I fancy having a bolder brow look and once the pomade sets it doesn't budge all day.
10 - lipstick, there was no way I could settle on only one shade of lipstick, so I'm cheating here and having three and that was still a massive struggle. I picked my perfect everyday nude shade: Mac Brave, my perfect red: Dior Diorific Mat in Fabuleuse and fun shade: Nars Audacious Lipstick in Natalie. I adore formula and the shades of all these three lipsticks but I can already say that I would need more shades as lipstick is the one makeup product that I like to change on daily basis. And while I would be happy to have my coral pink now during Summer I would love to have a deep berry shade for Winter, and that's only one example.
So these are the 10, or so, item products I could stay with if I had to get rid of the rest of my makeup collection.
But I already know that I would miss my highlighting concealer, my eye pencils for the water line and more lipsticks. The truth is, once you become a makeup junkie it's hard to revert to just a few makeup items. I can't believe a few years ago I only had a handful of products and didn't feel the need to have more. How wrong I was! LOL!
