We're officially in Spring now so some makeup switch is in order as I usually tend to favour lighter bases and fresher look for Spring and Summer. Today I want to talk to you about budget products that give us the dreamy 'glow from within' look, so desirable especially when the sun is out and we want to look youthful, healthy and glowing.
Makeup Revolution doesn't need introduction and it has been one of my favourite drugstore brands since they launched their first products 2 years ago. It's hard to keep up with their, almost constant, new launches but the recent few, focused on strobing which is a big trend this year, caught my attention and I had to try them.
Makeup Revolution has already in their range a similar palette called Radiance Palette which contains three highlighting powders in slightly different shades but as I don't own that one I decided to pick up the new one.
I'm all for subtle highlight, luminosity rather then shimmer and these powders are perfect for that, and also are much cheaper alternative to Hourglass Ambient Lighting powders. They're very finely milled, super smooth and deliver just a subtle glow to the skin. I didn't have any problem with them accentuating my pores or fine lines, they rather slightly blur them.
The white shade in the palette is the most shimmery out of the three but the shimmering particles are very subtle. It's perfect as a highlighter for pale skin tones, I use it mostly as my brow bone and inner corner highlight.
The middle, pink toned shade reminds me a lot of the Hourglass Strobe Lighting powder in Iridescent Light, it adds a very youthful glow to the skin and is just perfect for that fresh, Spring makeup look.
The nude shade is almost identical with Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Dim Light, it gives just a bit more glow to the skin, I dust it all over my face for that almost undetectable yet noticeable luminosity. I also like to mix it with the white shade to brighten my under eye area (the white shade on its own is a tad too shimmery).
This is a cream formula but it feels almost like cream to powder when blended out. It's an iridescent pale pink shade that leaves a subtle pink shift to the skin. It pairs beautifully with the pink toned shade powder from the Beyond Radiance palette. It blends easily in to the skin, I found my fingers are the best to apply it on top of my foundation, although I've tried it with a small stippling brush and it worked fine as well. This product doesn't give a strong highlighting effect, it adds luminosity to the skin and subtle glow.
This is a cream highlighter with subtle golden shimmer to it. I've tried the Charlotte Tilbury WonderGlow Primer and the Ultra Strobe Cream reminds a lot of it. It can be applied underneath foundation to adds radiance and glow to the skin, mixed with foundation or applied on top of it to highlight the high points on the face. I usually mix it with my matte foundations to make them more luminous. The Ultra Strobe Cream doesn't alter the performance or shade of my foundation so it's perfect to create a dewy finish without compromising on the longevity or coverage of my base.
Following the success of cult Shimmer Bricks from Bobbi Brown many brands brought their own versions and also Makeup Revolution jumped on the bandwagon. They launched two shades of their Shimmer Bricks, I bought the lighter one, called Radiant. The powder is very smooth, finely milled and very pigmented. While the other products I've been talking about deliver subtle glow this Shimmer Brick packs a punch, so light hand is definitely advisable when applying it, especially if using it as a bronzer. Although quite shimmery there isn't chunky glitter in it so the effect on the skin is beautiful.
I like to swirl all the shades with a duo fibre brush (check this post for a great but cheap duo fibre bronzing brush) and dust it lightly across my forehead, on the cheeks, like I'd do with a bronzer. To highlight the tops of my cheeks I use the mixture of those two lighter shades.
All the shades can be used as an eyashadows or inner corner highlights so the little palette is very versatile and perfect for a Summer to create that 'bronzed goddess' look.
In the picture below I'm wearing the Ultra Strobe Cream mixed with my foundation which I set with the nude shade powder from the Beyond Radiance palette and added Shimmer Brick in Radiant on the top of my cheeks.
Are you a fan of glowing skin for Spring? Did any of the new Makeup Revolution products caught your attention?
