When NYX started being available in Boots and on FeelUnique I jumped with an excitement and, like probably half of the nation, ordered some products from the brand that has been always praised by lots of beauty enthusiasts across the pond. Then I ordered some more and then a bit more :) I have been quite impressed by many of these products and after testing them for a few weeks I'm ready to share with you what I got and my thoughts on them.
Angel Veil Skin Perfecting Primer, £12 - I'm forever trying to find the perfect primer which will smooth out my skin, fill in pores, keep shine at bay and extend the time of my makeup and this one comes very close (Soap & Glory One Heck Of A Blot is another great one). It has a lightweight, silky texture, almost mousse-like, it feels a bit silicon-y but not too much and definitely it doesn't leave my skin feeling greasy and disgusting like other heavy in silicon primers. It smoothes out my skin, the foundation applies beautifully on top of it and lasts longer then without. I also noticed that I don't need to blot my skin as quickly when wearing this primer. Although it does blur the look of my pores and fine lines it doesn't fill them in as much as I hoped it would so the search for the perfect primer continues but in the meantime this is a great option.
HD Photogenic Concealer, £5.50 - I have it in the shade 03 Light which has peach undertones and it corrects the under eye darkness really well, it blends easily and lasts well throughout the day without fading or creasing, but I always set my concealer with powder. The shade I have is perfect for concealing for my skin tone, not so much for highlighting so I may get a shade lighter for that purpose. The only negative with this concealer is that I don't think it would cover very dark circles as it's not really full coverage in my opinion.
HD Finishing Powder in Banana shade, £8 - I hit pan in my beloved Inglot HD Powder that I use to set my under eye concealer and although I still have enough to use for the next couple of months or so, I decided to try another setting powder. The Banana HD Finishing powder is very finally milled and silky soft, it doesn't settle in my fine lines and keep the concealer without creasing all day. But it's not as brightening as the Inglot offering so it won't take the spot of my favourite under eye setting powder.
HD Blush in Intuition, £5.50 - this is a beautiful deep rose shade with very subtle golden shimmer, the texture is very soft, almost too much as it's a bit crumbly, it's finely milled, easy to blend and very pigmented. The above swatch is done quite heavily to show you the true colour but once you blend it out on the cheeks it looks beautiful and not scary at all. It lasts on my skin 7-8 hours without going patchy. I also like the sleek packaging with the cute bow.
Baked Blush in Foreplay, £6.50 - I love baked blushes as they give me subtle glow without being too shimmery so I have to try one of NYX ones. The shade I chose is a beautiful peach-y coral-y pink with very subtle golden shimmer (can you see the pattern here? lol). It's not as pigmented as the HD blush which, in my opinion, is a good thing as you can use it lightly on top of matte blush or build it up for desire opacity to wear it on its own. It's silky soft, blends easily and lasts very well on my skin. I'm not a fan of the bulkier packaging but the product is very nice.
Prismatic Eyeshadows, £5 each - I wouldn't be myself if I didn't try any eyeshadows from NYX so I picked two shades from the Prismatic range. They're very nice, silky soft, very pigmented, they blend easily and they have the cutest packaging but they didn't wow me. I was expecting something like Makeup Geek foiled eyeshadows and these are just metallic shimmers that can be found in any good quality eyeshadow palette. But the shades I chose are beautiful.
Bedroom Eyes - bronze shimmer,
Golden Peach - exactly that, deep peach with golden shift to it.
Wonder Pencil in 01 Light shade, £4 - my Rimmel nude eye pencil that I've been using for months on my waterline has come to an end so I ordered the NYX offering to see how they compare and I have to say that I prefer this one, it's more brightening then the Rimmel one and it lasts better on my super watery waterline, it's very creamy and easy to apply. I also like to use it to outline my brows when I'm doing more glamorous makeup look and to clean up the edges of my lips when wearing bolder lipstick. It's a great, multi-functional pencil and it comes in three shades so everyone should find the right one for themselves.
As you can see I went a bit crazy with NYX lip products but I wanted to try different ranges and there are so many to choose from!
Matte Lipsticks, £6.50 - I LOVE the formula of these lipsticks, they're very pigmented, nicely creamy and easy to apply but have a satin/semi-matte finish and last really good amount of time on the lips, even with some drinking and eating, the bolder shade leaves a stain behind making it even more long lasting. I find them very comfortable on the lips, they don't bleed outside the lip line, even the red shade, and don't accentuate dry patches or lines.
Whipped Caviar - nude pink with mauve undertones,
Bloody Mary - vibrant red with pink undertones, I adore this shade!
High Voltage Lipsticks, £5.50 - I am also a fan of these lipsticks, they're very creamy, well pigmented and feel super comfortable on the lips. They're not very long lasting but I still can get 2-4 hours without the need of re-applying depending on the amount of drinks or food I consume within this time. Because they are so creamy the bolder shades require lip liner to make them look neat on the lips. I like the thin bullet as it makes the application very easy.
Flutter Kiss - pink nude with brown undertones, one of my favourite nude shades,
Rags To Riches - bright coral with subtle golden sheen, gorgeous for Summer and completely unique in my lipstick collection.
Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick in shade Soft-Spoken, £6.50 - deep nude with brown undertones, I love the shade and the formula. It's very pigmented and creamy, but it sets and lasts up to 6 hours without the need of re-applying, even with eating and drinking. It's not completely matte and dry on the lips but it's not supposed to, it's a cream lipstick but in a liquid formula. I find it comfortable on the lips, although after about 3-4 hours it might start to feel a bit drying. For me it's perfect for what it is and I wish there were more colours in the range as at the moment nothing else tickle my fancy. I've seen some people saying that the applicator is not the best but I have no problems with precise application, so it's a personal matter I think.
Soft Matte Lip Cream, £5.50 - of course I could not miss this hyped up product and ordered two shades but I have to say these lipsticks are my least favourite of the bunch and I am actually a bit disappointed with them. I'm not the biggest fan of the mousse-like formula, I find that it applies a bit patchy and I need a few layers for it to look smooth and opaque on my lips. I also feel they're a bit more drying then any of the other NYX matte products I've tried. I don't know if it's just the case of these two shades but I don't quite get the hype and I'm not tempted to pick any more. Sorry peeps! :)
Antwerp - bright coral pink,
San Paulo - muted fuchsia pink.
Lip Liners, £5.50, the proper name is: Slide On, Glide On, Stay On & Definitely a Turn On Waterproof , Extreme Colour Lip Liner, LOL, that's a mouthful!
These are fantastic lip liners and I'm planning to get more shades, pronto! They are creamy and easy to apply but not as creamy that they don't give the staying power of a good lip liner. They're completely matte and feel a bit tacky when applied all over the lips and are excellent base for a lipstick to extend its wear time. They're not very drying on the lips which is great and they can be easily worn on its own.
Rosey Sunset - bright pink coral, perfect for all my coral, Summery lipsticks,
Bedrose - beautiful rosy nude, 'my lips but better' shade, great underneath any nude lipstick.
So that's it, all the products I've tried and tested from NYX. The stands out for me are the Angel Veil primer, Wonder Pencil, Baked Blush, Matte Lipsticks and Lip Liners.
Which products have you tried from NYX and which are your favourite?
