Although I like to treat myself to some higher end products, big part of my makeup collection consists of drugstore offerings. In the last few years budget friendly brands have improved their products so much that very often they can rival much more expensive counterparts or even are better, especially considering the price point. So I am always excited to try new affordable products to see how well they perform. Today I want to share with you new UK budget beauty brand: Live Love London, available from selected BHS stores nationwide.
Live Love London offers a wide variety of makeup but also hair and body products, all very affordable. I have been sent a few makeup products to try and after testing them for couple of weeks I am ready to share my thoughts on them.
Admittedly, as soon as I opened my parcel I thought that the packaging looks similar to products from Makeup Revolution (or Freedom Makeup) but I was told that, although they're manufactured in the same factory, they are different brands. Everything looks nice and sturdy and not cheap at all.
Love Blush in shade Desire (left swatch), £3 - the blush is housed in a nice, sturdy compact with a mirror, the shade is a beautiful light dusty pink with matte finish, perfect with almost any makeup look, it adds very natural looking colour to the cheeks, I'm really loving it! The formula is silky soft but not powdery, it blends effortlessly and lasts about 7-8 hours on my skin.
Sheer Lipgloss in shade Elated (middle swatch), £2 - I have to admit that I'm not a lipgloss person so I wasn't excited about this product, especially that it's so sheer that it looks almost transparent when it's applied on the lips. But the formula is quite nice, almost not sticky and it smells deliciously of vanilla cookies :) I will use it on top of a matte/satin lipstick if I want it to be more glossy, so not all is wasted.
Lipstick Intense Nude Lip (right swatch), £2 - it's a nice nude shade, although on my lips it looks a bit concealer-like so I like to pair it with a more pink toned lip liner. The formula is nice and creamy, it applies without dragging the skin but I need a couple of layers for full opacity. Unfortunately I noticed that the lipstick accentuates dry skin and lines and it lasts only about 2 hours on its own and it needs to be reapplied after eating. But for £2 I think it's a good lipstick and I like the packaging so I'm curious about other shades in this range.
Bronze and Light palette, £9 - 6 bronzing and highlighting shades housed in a sturdy palette with a good quality and size mirror. All the shades are shimmery, apart from the two first pink shades which have more of a satin sheen finish. These 2 shades look very beautiful applied subtly on top of the cheeks or on top of a matte blush for some 'glow from within'. They also can be used as glow-y blushes if applied more heavily. The other shades have more metallic finish so I'm not comfortable wearing them all over my face but they look beautiful on the eyes as eyeshadows or inner corner highlight. The lighter bronze shade can be used on top of the cheeks as a golden highlighter. The darkest shade would probably look lovely on darker skin tones. All the shades are very smooth and very pigmented, as you can see from the swatches, and they blend really nicely. On my skin they last about 6-7 hours as a highlighter/blush.
HD Contouring Expert palette, £10 - 6 contouring shades placed in a hard cardboard, sturdy palette with small mirror and some guide on how to use the different shades. All the powders are silky soft, very finally milled and well pigmented. They blend very easily and I find them lasting on my skin for up to 10 hours. As you can see from the picture of swatches above there is a matt white shade to set the under eye concealer and for very subtle highlight. The second white shade has a pearly finish and it's a gorgeous highlighter that adds just the right amount of sheen without being too shimmery. Then we have 4 different contouring shades which would suit different skin tones from pale to dark. I usually use shade 3 (from left on the picture of swatches) for everyday very subtle contoured/bronzed look or mix it with shade 5 for more definition.
In my opinion the HD Contouring Expert is a fantastic palette and I highly recommend it if you're looking for some great contouring shades, especially for paler skin tones.
Overall I think Live Love London brings good quality, affordable products so I urge you to check their stands when you're next time around BHS shop. My favourite products, from the ones I've tried, are definitely the HD Contouring Expert palette and the single Love Blush.
