There is something very glamorous and festive about red lips and nails and as we have approached that time of year of Christmas parties I've decided to share with you my favourite red lipsticks and nail polishes that look very much Christmassy in my opinion. I wasn't a fan of red lip products until some time last year but now I'm loving them, especially for those times when I want to look and feel glamorous. There is something fabulous about wearing red lipstick, it makes you feel confident, powerful, classy and sexy. You just need to find the right shade and formula to feel comfortable wearing it. As for the nails, most of you probably agree, that red nail polish adds glamour to any outfit.
My top 3 festive red lipsticks.
Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in 'Beso', £16 - I have a deluxe sample of this liquid lipstick which I got in a Christmas set but it's a very decent size and will last me probably a good while. It's a beautiful orange toned red, very festive in my opinion, with true matte finish. The pigmentation is amazing and one swipe across your lips is enough for full opacity, the doe foot applicator is precise enough to carefully line the lips. The staying power of this liquid lipstick is fantastic, it survives drinking and eating, maybe not a burger but definitely a meal when using cutleries, so it's a perfect choice for a party when you want to look perfectly glam despite having a glass or two of something and a bite. The lipstick is matte and long lasting but it doesn't feel very drying on the lips, it doesn't accentuate any dry skin nor settle in any lines. After wearing it for about 7-8 hours my lips needed a bit of lip balm but they were not overly dry. I highly recommend Stila liquid lipsticks!
Dior Diorific Mat in '750 Fabuleuse', State of Gold Collection, £28 - this is the latest addition to my lipstick collection but it was a love from the first sight so I had to include it, from the packaging to the formula and the colour, everything looks and is luxurious. If you want to treat yourself to a special lipstick for Christmas I highly recommend this new, limited edition I believe, collection. I personally like to invest my money in bold shades of lipsticks as that's where I want the formula to be the best. I don't mind a slightly less opaque or not long lasting nude lipstick but with bolder shades I want to be sure my lips look as good as possible for longer then an hour. Dior Fabuleuse is a beautiful blue toned red shade, very pigmented, creamy to apply but not overly so that the lipstick smudges easily and slip around. The finish is more satin then matte which I actually prefer as I like to have a bit of shine on my lips. I wasn't expecting this lipstick to be very long lasting but it actually surprised me and survived a few drinks and a dinner with just a bit of fading. I'd say it lasts easily about 5 hours before you might want to touch it up, it doesn't bleed or smudge. It feels very comfortable on the lips and I didn't experience any dryness throughout the time of wearing it or afterwards.
L'Oreal Color Riche Liya's Pure Red, £6.99 - the cheapest out of the three but still nice quality lipstick. This shade has some pink undertones but it translates as a beautiful red on the lips. The pigmentation is good, although it needs a couple of layers for a full opacity, the finish is matte/satin, it feels very comfortable, almost moisturising on the lips. It lasts about 3-4 hours, depending how much eating and drinking you do in the meantime. It does slightly bleed so wearing a matching lip liner is advisable. Really good budget option for a Christmas party red lipstick!
My top 3 festive red nail polishes.
Rimmel 60 Seconds in '310 Red Carpet', £2.49 - I bought this nail polish for Christmas 2 years ago and I only wear it around that time of year as I feel like it's very Christmassy, orange toned red with some golden subtle micro shimmer. I love Rimmel nail polishes, they have good formula, wide brush for easy application, cost very little and last on my nails around 3 days which is comparable for me to more expensive nail polishes.
Model Own Diamond Luxe in 'Marquise Maroon', £4.99 - another shade perfect for a festive parties, deep red with golden micro sparkles, it looks very beautiful and super festive but not OTT as it's not glittery. The formula of this nail polish is good, the brush is wide and it lasts on me around 3 days as well.
Rimmel 60 Seconds Super Shine in '320 Rapid Ruby', £2.99 - beautiful deep red with a glossy finish, just as with other Rimmel nail polishes, the formula is very good and the brush wide.
