A few weeks ago I de-cluttered with you my makeup primers and today it's time to do the same with my foundations as it seems like I have accumulated way too many. Bare in mind that I haven't bought them all at once, some of them I've had for nearly 2 years! Being the beauty junkie I am and a beauty blogger means, that I am always eager to try something new and gone are days when I actually used up a foundation before purchasing a new one. Nowadays I keep buying new products, first, to find the best formulations for my skin and second, to try and compare different products for the blog purposes, #thebestexcuseever :) I am rather careful when it comes to high end purchases but can't help myself with drugstore options so you will see lots of affordable foundations in my stash. This post will be quite long as I have many products to go through, so let's jump to it already!
Foundations I've had for too long - need to go.
Maybelline Super Stay Better Skin in 010 Ivory - it's a good foundation for combination/oily skin, gives a medium to full coverage and the longevity isn't bad either, it looks good on my skin for around 6 hours. As I've had it for over a year I think it's time to say 'good bye'.
Would I repurchase it? No, I have found better foundations for my skin type.
Collection Lasting Perfection Ultimate Wear Foundation in Ivory - after hearing so many great things about the concealer, one day at the beginning of my blogging journey, I decided to get it and also picked up the foundation. I wasn't a fan of the concealer as it was too heavy for my under eye area but surprisingly I really liked this foundation. It gives good medium to full coverage, blends easily and lasts quite well throughout the day, the only negative is that it oxidises during the day so it's hard to get the shade right.
Would I repurchase it? I actually might, as it's very affordable and I like to see how will it work on my skin now.
L'Oreal Code Lumiere BB Cream in Fair - this BB cream gives a light to medium coverage and the finish is very luminous, I used it a good number of times but needed to powder to reduce the shine, it doesn't last well on my skin but I think dry skin would love it, if it's still available, as I've had it for almost 2 years. Bye, bye!
La Roche-Posay Rosaliac CC Cream - I really liked this base and used a lot during Summer last year as it has SPF30 and it feels lightweight on the skin. It's quite difficult to blend it seamlessly so I remember using my fingers to apply it most of the time. It gives nice medium coverage and stays well for around 6 hours on my skin.
Would I repurchase it? No, as I didn't love it enough to have it again in my life.
Foundations with the wrong shade - need to go.
Rimmel Lasting Finish 25HR in 201 Classic Beige - I really like this foundation, it provides nearly full coverage but doesn't look cakey or heavy on the skin, also it lasts well throughout the day but the shade is more on the pink side and while I was trying to make it work it really doesn't suit my skin tone.
Would I repurchase it? I think I will try to find a shade that suits me better because I like the formula.
Estee Lauder Double Wear Maximum Cover in 2W2Rattan - some time last year I was very concerned how uneven my skin tone was with lots of dark pigmentation and I was looking for a heavy duty full coverage foundation and bought this one, but the shade was already to dark for me. I made it work during Summer when I had a bit of tan but most of the year this shade is really not suitable. I actually used to use a drop of this with the Rimmel foundation to make it more yellow toned. The coverage of this foundation is really full and it does look heavy and cakey on the skin.
Would I repurchase it? No, I don't need such heavy foundation anymore and prefer more natural finishes.
Foundations that don't work for my skin - need to go.
Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream SPF30 - I bought this couple of month ago thinking that it would be a great base for those Summer days when I want a light coverage and some extra SPF protection. But the coverage is very minimal and it makes my skin looks very shiny, I don't like it at all, I might give it to my friend who has dry skin and she doesn't wear lots of makeup so she might like it.
L'Oreal Skin Perfection Anti-Fatigue Perk-Up Cream - this is white cream that contains micro pearls with some pigment that adjust to your skin tone giving your skin evened out look, it also hydrates and illuminate skin lightly. It's a nice product but it makes me look shiny and I just don't like using it. Again, I might offer this to one of my friends.
Maybelline Dream Flawless Nude Foundation in Ivory - I really dislike this foundation, from the weird droplet thing to how it sits on my skin, I tried it recently after not touching it for weeks and I still hate it so it definitely needs to go and I don't think I want to give it to any of my friends as I can't recommend it. You can read my full review here.
Dr Brandt CC Mat Cream SPF30 - another base product I bought recently thinking of Summer and another one I really dislike. This product is so difficult to blend in to the skin that made me hate it since the first use. It rolls out under my fingers, gets patchy and the coverage is very light. I have tried different tools to apply it with and it never looked good. Going straight to the bin, such a disappointment.
Foundations that are just OK - need to go.
Max Factor Face Finity All Day Flawless 3 in 1 Foundation in Beige - for a product that claims to be primer, concealer and foundation in one it performs very average in my opinion. It gives, at most, medium coverage, starts to separate on my skin after 5 hours and it doesn't control the shine very well. It's not bad foundation but nothing I want to use over my other bases.
Maybelline Super Stay 24H foundation in 030 Sand - another foundation that it's ok but it doesn't impress me in any department and because I've had it for a year and I rarely reach for it I know it's time to get rid of it.
Foundations that I like but don't love - staying.
Rimmel Match Perfection Light Perfecting Radiance Foundation in Ivory - the first time I used it with my Beauty Blender I didn't like it, it gave me nearly not coverage at all and looked super shiny, but then I tried applying it with my Sigma Flat Kabuki brush and it looked really beautiful, medium coverage, naturally luminous, it doesn't last well on my skin though, it disappears from my nose and chin after 5-6 hours so it's not a foundation I rely on when I want my makeup to stay longer then that.
Seventeen Stay Time 25HR Foundation in Natural - this is a heavy coverage base, it can look cakey but I love using it with my Beauty Blender which helps to make it look more natural but still covers very well any imperfections and stays well on my skin for 8-10 hours which is quite impressive for such an inexpensive foundation.
Nars All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation in Deauville - I wrote a review on it recently so if read it you know that this foundation works well for me only when my skin is in very good condition but if I have any dry patches I avoid it like a plague.
Foundations I'm currently loving - staying.
L'Oreal Infallible 24H Matte Foundation in 12 Natural Rose - one of the best foundation I've tried, read my full review on it here, good coverage, very natural finish, controls shine and lasts all day! I need to get another darker shade as this one doesn't match me now and I really miss using it!
Revlon Colorstay for Combination/Oily skin in 180 Sand Beige - one of my favourite foundations of all time, great coverage, good staying power, it might look a bit cakey but applying it with damp Beauty Blender makes it look beautiful on the skin, lasts for good 8-9 hours on my skin and it's great at controlling oil production.
Dior Star Foundation in 020 - I love the finish and coverage of this foundation, you can read my full review here, unfortunately it's not the most long wearing base I have, so it won't be the product of my choice if I plan on wearing makeup all day but I have been reaching for it lately when I'm getting ready for an afternoon or evening out, especially that the shade matches my skin now very well.
L'Oreal True Match Foundation in W3 Golden Beige - this is my latest love, which I have talked about a lot already. I adore the finish it gives me, very natural, a bit dewy but still with very good coverage, it lasts around 9-10 hours on my skin, yes, I need to blot my skin around the 4th hour of wearing the foundation but I still love it.
So there you go, I have de-cluttered my base products and I'm so happy to be left with 7 foundations which I know I will be reaching for frequently and might actually use something up. Have you tried any of them? Let me know your experience if you have. What's your favourite foundation at the moment?
