OLE HENRIKSEN is a skincare brand I have heard many great things about but only used one of their products, the Pure Truth Youth Activating Oil which I loved and reviewed some time before. I read lots of information about the brand and its creator, Ole Henriksen and was very keen on trying some other products. Couple of months ago I was contacted by the Ole Henriksen Team asking if I want to take part in their #RealUsersRealResults campaign and test and review some of their products specifically chosen for me, including the 3 Little Wonders set. I couldn't have said 'yes' quickly enough :)
I was asked to fill a questionnaire about myself and my skin, giving all the details about my skin's concerns and also including a picture of my makeup-free face. Based on all these information I was supposed to receive a customised skincare regimen chosen for me by Ole. Two weeks ago I have received a package with my personalised skincare routine and instructions on which products to use in the morning and at night. To say I was surprised it would be understatement when I saw all the products that were sent to me! I did expected the 3 Little Wonders kit but didn't think my whole skincare routine will be covered.
I didn't start using everything at once as I didn't want my skin to get crazy with all the new products and also I was still testing some other things which I wanted to get a good feel about before introducing new skincare to my routine. The face cleanser, eye creams and the Pure Truth Youth Activating Oil were the first products which I started using, almost straight away and last weekend I introduced the rest of the regimen. So now my skincare routine consists mostly of Ole Henrkisen products and let me tell you what are they and what are my first impressions.
For reference, my skin is combination with oilier T-Zone and normal cheeks, it gets dehydrated pretty quickly which results in dry patches. I have very uneven skin tone, with some sun damage spots, hyperpigmentation, a bit of redness and some mild scarring from old breakouts. I've been forever suffering with large pores and in the last few years I have gained some lines across my forehead and under my eyes as well as the lovely crow's feet, hello aging!
Aloe Vera Deep Cleanser (for oily/blemish prone skin) - calming gel with Chamomile extract, Aloe Vera, Eucaliptus Oil and Vit. E, it leaves my skin very clean but not stripped from moisture like it sometimes happens with gel cleansers. I love using it in the morning as its scent is so refreshing and helps to make me feel more awake. I've been using it for two weeks and my skin is less oily then ever but not dehydrated at all so this cleanser gets a big thumbs up from me.
Total Truth Eye Cream SPF15 - it contains Omega 3 extracts to nourish and hydrate to diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, Micro Algae and Tri-peptide 5 to strengthen and firm the skin in the delicate under eye area. The addition of SPF15 makes an ideal day cream to protect the skin from the harmful sun rays. The consistency of it is very lightweight and it sinks in to the skin almost instantly leaving it soft and hydrated, amazing eye cream.
Truth Serum Collagen Booster (daytime anti-aging serum) - part of the 3 Little Wonders kit, can be also bought separately, it contains Vit. C complex to smooth out lines and wrinkles and prevent further damage, moisture-binding ingredients keep the skin nourished and protected. The texture of this serum is like a liquid gel, it smells amazing, a bit like fresh mandarins and such a pleasure to use it in the morning. A little goes a long way and it makes my skin feel instantly hydrated and nourished, my only little negative is that it leaves a bit of a residue on my skin so if I need to wait a good 20-30 minutes before applying my makeup, otherwise the foundation doesn't blend in as seamlessly as it should.
Sheer Transformation ( brightening moisturiser) - also part of the 3 Little Wonders kit, this oil-free cream helps fade discolorations such as freckles, age spots and sun damage without the use of chemicals but instead containing Actiwhite and licorice complex, Vit. C and fruit acids. Sandalwood, Geranium, licorice and Chamomile soothe, replenish, balance and purify the skin. The cream feels very lightweight and silky soft, it's absorbed within seconds and while some creams of this kind of texture used to leave my skin slightly tight and asking for more moisture, this one is just perfect, my skin is soft, hydrated but without any greasy or sticky residue. Another winner for me.
For my evening cleanse I was advised by Ole to use on alternating days the Aloe Vera Deep Cleanser and Nurture Me Cleansing Cloths. And while the cleansing clothes are good at removing makeup I'm not a fan of them being my only cleanser at night, especially if I wore makeup that day which happens most days. I actually have never been a fan of makeup removing wipes and after trying some years ago and deciding that I don't like them, I never reach for them unless to refresh my face on the beach or during those makeup free days. So even though these Nurture Me Cleansing Clothes are amazingly soft, they smell good enough to eat them, (not that I tried!), and remove makeup fairly easily I prefer to use my usual Micellar Water to remove all traces of my makeup and progress with the Aloe Vera Deep Cleanser. I do prefer some heavier, more nourishing cleansing balms or oils for the night cleanse but I will probably use the Ole Henriksen cleanser for a couple of weeks to see how my skin is liking it as an evening cleanse.
Invigorating Night Treatment (overnight resurfacer) - it accelerates cell turnover to dramatically smooth texture and fine lines, even skin tone and minimize appearance of pores with a 12 source AHA complex including glycolic, lactic & citric acids. Algae extract nourishes the skin with vitamins and minerals and Mucopolysaccharrides bind moisture to the skin and provide superior hydration. The treatment has a consistency of a lightweight gel and a little goes a long way, I feel a little tingling sensation for the first few seconds but it's quite normal for products containing AHA and I'm quite used to it, other then that the product doesn't irritate my skin and actually feels really hydrating, although after few minutes I have the need to follow with moisturiser which is actually advised to do so. I have used it only for three nights so far but I can already see a little difference in my skin which is becoming softer and some of my under skin bumps have already disappeared.
Ultimate Lift Eye Gel - this cooling eye gel instantly soothes and de-puffs the under-eye area with cucumber and algae extracts while the ultimate firming complex, a blend of bio-peptides and hyaluronic acid, helps to lift, firm and diminish the appearance of crow’s feet and wrinkles. The gel feels very refreshing but also hydrating, it is quite sticky at first and it takes some time to get absorbed but I don't mind that at night time as long as it leaves my skin looking younger :) It has a nice fresh, cucumber-like scent which I really enjoy.
Pure Truth Youth Activating Oil - I love this product which I reviewed it a few month ago, it's a 100% concentrated Rose Hips Oil reach in antioxidants and essential fatty acids to heal, nourish and hydrate the skin. I love its citrus scent and although it does leave a shiny residue on my skin, again, I don't mind it at night time. It doesn't make my skin more oily, doesn't clog my pores and it's a fantastic night time treatment.
Lemon Strip Flash Peel - it's an exfoliating treatment to use twice a week, one-step express peel powered by lactic, glycolic and fruit acids that work in three ways to exfoliate and resurface skin, while algae extract soothes and calms. When applied to the skin with provided brush it does sting a bit , but, again, it's a normal reaction to all the acids, after the first minute or so it's completely comfortable, it doesn't leave my skin red or irritated but rather super smooth, brighter and clearer. I've used it three times and I think it made already a difference to the appearance of my pores which look smaller. What I don't like about this product is its scent as it does initially smell for me like a toilette cleaner and it makes me think like I'm putting something dangerous on my skin. Thankfully the scent fades quickly when the product is on the skin. If using the Lemon Strip Flash Peel I'm advised to skip the Invigorating Night Treatment and only follow with the Pure Truth Youth Activating Oil.
So this is my new skincare routine, I'm already very impressed by most of the products and can't wait to see how they will transform my skin in a few weeks time. I will post an update in a month or so and in the meantime I will review separately some of the products. Also, I love the simple but colourful packaging which looks so pretty in my bathroom and adds to the joy of using everything (yes, the little girl in me can't hide that).
