If you've been reading my blog for any period of time you know that eye shadow palettes are my biggest obsession, I absolutely adore them and they're the one makeup item I get super excited about. So there was not surprise that under our Christmas tree I found a palette (or two), my Santa knows me very well :)
Stila is a new brand to me but I've heard lots of good things about their products so I was really excited to get my hands on one of their eye shadow palettes.
'Eyes Are The Window' range consist of 4 palettes named 'Body', 'Spirit', 'Mind' and 'Soul' which are part of Stila A/W 2014 collection to celebrate 20 years of Stila as a brand.
"Create endless uniquely beautiful looks with our new Eyes Are The Window™ palettes. Inspired by the spiritual idea that true beauty comes from within, each one has 12 luxurious eye shadows to enhance your inner beauty."
I have the palette called 'Spirit'.
As you can see the packaging is a gorgeous rose gold metal-like casing with the name of the brand on top and names of the eye shadows on the back.
The palette has a large mirror inside, secure, magnetic closure and comes with a little booklet with three different eye makeup looks.
Once you open the palette you're greeted by 12 beautiful eye shadows with shimmery, metallic or matte finish. Also there is a plastic overlay with a quote by Leonardo DaVinci:
"Where the spirit does not work with the hand, there is no art"
which is a nice touch and makes you feel almost like a great artist with a makeup brush in hand :)
I've heard some mixed reviews about these palettes, from great ones to bad ones so I was quite anxious when I first started swatching the eye shadows. But I was pleasantly surprised as the quality of them is really good. The shimmery, metallic shades are buttery soft and very pigmented, the matte and semi-matte shades are slightly powdery and the colour needs to be build up for the require intensity but they perform very well on the eyes, even if they don't swatch as good as the shimmery shades.
After using the palette to create my eye makeup many times already I can honestly say that all these eye shadows blend beautiful, you have to be careful not too over blend the semi-matte shades though as they might end up looking a bit muddy. The longevity of them on my eye lids is about 8 hours, after this time, roughly, I noticed very slight creasing. But that's without a proper primer as I normally only use on my eye lids the same concealer that I use under my eyes. There is a little bit of fall out due to their soft consistency so if I'm doing more intricate makeup I like to do my eyes before applying foundation. But that's how I do with any eye shadows.
Here are the swatches of the eye shadows from first and second row from the top, no primer underneath.
Kitten - the iconic rosy champagne shimmer, absolutely gorgeous!
Puppy - matte light brown, not crazy pigmented but buildable and perfect for the crease colour.
Pigalle - muted marron/burgundy shade, matte with golden fine sparkles which doesn't really translate on to eyes. This shade needs to be build up to get the intensity like in the picture.
Oasis - pale gold shimmer.
Jezebel - peachy gold with metallic finish, beautiful!
Barefoot - golden chocolate brown with shimmer.
Swatches of third and fourth row from the top without primer.
Wheat - pale sand shimmer.
Golightly - antiqued bronze shimmer.
Espresso - matte cool toned dark brown with fine shimmer which, again, doesn't really show up on eyes.
Chinois - matte cream, very pigmented for such a light eye shadow.
Slate - silver taupe shimmer, stunning!
Pewter - charcoal dark grey with subtle silver shimmer.
In overall I really like this palette, it's compact and beautiful outside and inside. I've been using it nearly every day for the past 2 weeks and I'm happy with the performance of the eye shadows. Obviously, it's a neutral palette but there are some warm and cool toned eye shadows and you can create any neutral look you wish. Today I'm wearing Slate all over my lid with Pewter used as my liner and smudged on my lower lid, Kitten in my inner corners and Chinois on the brow bone. This look takes me no more than 5 minutes and looks really beautiful.
Stila 'Eyes Are The Window' palettes cost £30 each and you can buy them from different online stores or Boots and M&S in UK.
