My 2014 top favourite beauty products

2014 beauty favourites

Hello!
First of all, happy New Year to you all! The 2015 has already started and we have the whole year ahead of us. I'm not the one for New Year's resolution but I like the feeling of new beginning and like most of us I have plans, dreams and ambitions for the next months and feel excited about the future.
Even though I enjoyed a lot the festive period I'm glad it's over and I'm looking forward to getting back on track with my everyday life and blogging.

I love reading beauty favourites on other blogs so decided to join the trend and share with you my top beauty products of 2014. It was a very hard task to pick them as the previous year was a very special for me in terms of trying new beauty products. Since joining the blogging world my obsession with makeup and skincare has become nearly uncontrollable :) I have tried so many products, many of them great, some very average and a few quite disappointing. I was thinking how should I pick the top beauty products of last year and decided that I will share with you those who became my holy grails, those which I've already repurchased or will in the future and can't be without.
So let me introduce you to my top favourite 2014 beauty products!
Revlon ColorStay foundation for combination/oily skin - I have around 10 different foundations on the go on my dressing table right now, so it's faire to say that I did try many this past year and the award goes without the doubt to the Revlon one. It has a great coverage but it doesn't feel heavy or look cakey on the skin and most importantly it lasts very well on my skin which is something I always struggle with other foundations. This one is definitely the best I tried last year and will most certainly repurchase when it runs out.

I tried also many concealers last year and one that I already repurchased is the Rimmel Wake Me Up concealer which is just perfect to cover darkness under my eyes and highlight that area. It doesn't settle in my fine lines nor crease and being very affordable makes it a winner in my eyes.

Another Rimmel product that I've been using daily since I bought it at the beginning of the year is the Scandaleyes Waterproof pencil in Nude. I use it on my waterline to brighten my eyes, make them look bigger and more awake, it's an absolutely must-have product for me.

I have short and quite sparse lashes so I wear mascara every single day, some of them are better than others but since trying the Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara (review here) nothing compares really. It gives my lashes volume, adds length and lightly curl them, and it stays on till I remove it by the end of the day. I'm looking for a cheaper alternative but so far this one is the winner.

2014 was for me a year of discovering my love for lipsticks, before that I would wear them only occasionally and I was more of a lipgloss/lip balm-only kind of girl. But, oh boy I have missed on so much, I can't get enough of lipsticks now :) And because I discovered the big world of lip products I couldn't choose just one lipstick so I picked my favourites which are, in general, Rimmel lipsticks ( review here and here), Milani lipsticks (review here) and my only one high end lipstick, the beautiful Anna by NARS ( review here).

2014, especially the second half was a time of eye shadow palettes indulgence. Eye shadow palettes are my biggest obsession and last year I bought some gorgeous ones and these two are definitely my favourites, the ones I'd cry if they got damaged or lost :) Too Faced Everything Nice palette (review here) is a limited Holidays edition so it's particularly special to me and definitely one I use more than any other. I love all the eye shadows and the cheek products as well, the quality is great and colours stunning. Too Faced Chocolate Bar palette (review here) is more of an everyday, travel friendly palette but still very beautiful with amazing quality.

Makeup Revolution has been my favourite brand discovery in 2014, they release new products every month and everything is super affordable with good quality so any makeup junkie, like me, can satisfy their appetite for new makeup without breaking the bank. I tried many products from Makeup Revolution but the ones that I really love and highly recommend are their powder products: eye shadows, blushers, highlighters etc. I have a large amount of their eye shadow palettes (you can find the review of one of the latest one here) and plan on expanding my collection because they are good quality eye shadows with gorgeous colours and, in my opinion, one of the best in UK drugstores.

If you've been reading my blog for some time you know I love painting my nails (unfortunately the Manicure Monday series had to stop as I can't justify buying more nail polishes, lol) but I struggled for months, if not years with weak nails, they used to break easily, peel and be in bad condition no matter what I was doing to help them get stronger until I gave in and bought the well hyped Nail Envy by OPI. It took me about 2 months of regular using the Nail Envy to see some results but now I can totally say that this product has become my holy grail and I will always have it and use it. It made my nails so much stronger, they stopped peeling and they grow faster. Highly recommend it if you're struggling with weak nails. Another nail product that I use every time I do my manicure is the ORLY Glosser, it's a top coat that give my nails amazing glossiness and even not so good nail polish looks amazing after applying this top coat. I can't say that it extends the longevity of the nail polish significantly but it definitely makes my nails look beautiful.

I tried and tested so many skincare products in the past year and found some great products but the ones I will forever repurchase and they absolutely have to be on my bathroom shelf are Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water and La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo/Effaclar K (review here). The Garnier Micellar Water has been my makeup remover for months, I can't even remember how many times I've repurchased it. It removes my makeup with ease, doesn't irritate my eyes or dry out my skin and it's pretty cheap, I don't even need to try anything else, I'm absolutely happy with it.
Since trying La Roche-Posay Effaclar K at the beginning of 2014 I absolutely fell in love with it but when the second tube was finished a couple of months ago I decided to give my skin a break to see if the Effaclar is really such an amazing product. And here I am, finishing the year with the Effaclar Duo(*) being my favourite skincare product. I am planning on reviewing the new Effaclar Duo+ range soon so won't go into details now but if you have oily skin prone to blemishes/imperfection I can't recommend the Effaclar enough.

In 2014 I discovered some amazing makeup tools, Beauty Blender being one of them. I used to apply my foundation and concealer with my fingers for the longest time, then sometime in 2013, after watching way too many youtube videos, I bought some brushes to apply my foundation but I was never quite satisfied with the finish they gave me. And then came Beauty Blender into my life and now it's the only way I apply my foundation and concealer, it gives the most perfect finish to the skin and I haven't tried a brush that can win with it. I've tried along the way some other 'dupes' and while they're some good ones (Real Techniques Miracle Sponge) somehow I prefer the original Beauty Blender. The one on the above picture I've had since May last year so it lasted quite well but I do feel like I need a new one some time soon.
Another great discovery this year was Zoeva brushes, I've collected some of the eye brushes and I'm amazed with the quality of them. Will definitely be buying in the new year more of their brushes, especially the face ones as I haven't tried those.

In my yearly top favourites products I wanted to include also a perfume, that was very hard as well as I have many that I love and I also tend to change them with the seasons but the one that I love using no matter what weather is Jimmy Choo, the original one. I absolutely adore this sexy, slightly sweet, musky scent and it's perfect for Winter day/night and Summer evenings. I also repurchased this already and can see doing it again when this bottle is finished. It's definitely my favourite scent for 2014.

Lastly I want to mention another beauty product which I've become obsessed with in the last few months and it's false lashes. I've only started wearing them lately but I love how they change the whole eye makeup look and once I got hang of them I can't get enough. Of course I don't wear them every day but if I go out or want to look extra glamour I reach for false lashes. My favourite now are Red Cherry, they're cheap, very natural looking and comfortable.

So that is it! My top 2014 beauty products. Are any of them in your favourites as well? Let me know your thoughts, I love to hear from you!

  11. Some of your favourites are also the same as mine like the Zoeva brushes and the Nars Audacious, as you know. :) I also used to love my beauty blender but it got mouldy and I just gave up on it as brushes tend to be so much more practical and economical. x

    1. It's easy to get bored with palette if we use the same shade all the time, maybe you need to experiment a bit more with the colour selection :)
