I love perfumes, more than that, I'm rather obsessed with them. I need to wear some kind of fragrance every day even if I don't leave the house. Smelling nice makes me feel prettier, sexier and lifts my mood instantly. I adore spraying my wrists with perfume and detecting all the notes when the scent is developing on my skin. I rarely buy a bottle of perfume without trying it on my skin first as it can smell totally different than on a paper strip which we normally use when testing new fragrances in the shop. Testing more than two different fragrances at once is just overwhelming for me and confusing. That's why I love getting and using samples. So when I found out sometime last year about subscription box containing perfume samples I signed up straight away. I think it's a great idea, you get a little sample of fragrance that you can test out properly in the peace of your home.
Recently I've been asked if I'd like to review the Discovery Club box and I didn't hesitate because I already knew that I like it.
Discovery Club by The Fragrance Shop is a quarterly subscription box that costs only £5 each ( £20 per year) and you get 5 - 7 perfume vial samples along with vouchers of minimum £5 off each fragrance included in the Discovery Club box. That means if you decide to buy one of the perfumes your subscription box was practically free.
By signing up for Discovery Club membership from The Fragrance Shop you get to support ill children as 5 pence from every transaction is donated to "Rays of Sunshine" children's charity.
Discovery Club Summer 2014 Edition* consists of 7 vial samples of the latest launches for women and men and a beautifully prepared booklet with short descriptions of the enclosed fragrances and off money vouchers.
So let me tell you about the fragrances I've had the pleasure to try.
GHOST Eclipse - Eau de Toilette 30ml £24.50 / 50ml £33.50 / 75ml £46
TOP NOTES - summer fruits of apple, blackcurrant, mandarin, bergamot and peach
HEART NOTES - lotus, freesia and rose
BASE NOTES - amber and sensual musk
Fresh and fruity at first with very clear apple notes develops into richer, deeper scent. Interesting fragrance but not really my cup of tea and it didn't last on my skin very well. But the full size bottle is beautiful and makes you think of a Summer night :)
PRADA Candy Florale - Eau de Toilette 30ml £38 / 50ml £51 / 80ml £67.50
TOP NOTES - Italian limoncello
HEART NOTES - peony
BASE NOTES - musk, benzoin, caramel
Beautiful, flirty and feminine floral scent, fresh and sparkling at first becomes more sensual but still subtly floral. Perfect for a Summer day, I love it. If you like floral scents you'd probably love it too.
AGENT PROVOCATEUR Fatale - Eau de Parfum 30ml £35 / 50ml £45
TOP NOTES - mango, blackcurrant, Madagascan pink pepper
HEART NOTES - gardenia, orris absolute, patchouli
BASE NOTES - vanilla orchid, musk, chocolate Spanish labdanum
This one is more an Summer evening or for Autumn / Winter scent in my opinion as it has warmer, richer notes. The smell of pink pepper gives a bit of spiciness and makes it intriguing. I really like it, it's sensual, sexy, perfect for a night out.
PACO RABANNE Lady Million Eau My Gold - Eau de Toilette 50ml £44.50 / 80ml £60
TOP NOTES - mango, grapefruit, neroli essence
HEART NOTES - violet leaf, orange blossom
BASE NOTES - ambery musks, sandalwood, cedar
I adore this one, fruity with green notes when you spray it on skin, changes into warm, but still somehow fresh, feminine scent. Sophisticated and elegant. I will definitely purchase a full size of this perfume.
GIVENCHY Dahlia Divin - Eau de Parfum 30ml £44.50 / 50ml £63.50 / 75ml £77.50
TOP NOTES - golden Mirabelle plum
HEART NOTES - white flowers, jasmine
BASE NOTES - vetiver, sandalwood, patchouli
From the first moment this scent makes me think of some elegant party, me wearing some gorgeous dress, perfect hair and make up, sipping champagne and yes, basically looking as fabulous as Alicia Keys in the campaign advertising the perfume, haha. The scent is warm floral, more grown up than you usual floral fragrance with deep sandalwood and patchouli notes. It is on my 'to buy' list. And my husband loves that one on me which is a bonus as well!
LACOSTE Live - Eau de Toilette 40ml £28.50 / 100ml £46.50
TOP NOTES - zesty lime, saffron
HEART NOTES - green leaves, aquatic notes
BASE NOTES - Guaiac wood, liquorice, sandalwood
This scent is my husbands favourite from the two male fragrances from the box and he will definitely buy it. It's fresh, zesty at first , becoming more aquatic but with richer, masculine notes. I like it too.
GIVENCHY Gentleman Only Intense - Eau de Toilette 50ml £47 / 100ml £63.50
TOP NOTES - birch leaf, green mandarin, black pepper
HEART NOTES - Texas cedar wood, patchouli, leather
BASE NOTES - incense, amber, Tonka bean
Rich, deep scent from the beginning, sensual and sexy, perfect paired with handsome man in a elegant suit :) For my husband it's a fragrance for a special night out and I agree.
I love trying new perfumes and the samples are big enough to use it 2, 3 times so I can really decide if the perfume is for me and worth purchasing the full size.
Do you like getting perfume samples and the idea of subscription box consisting of them?
